CD player displaying names/titles

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi everyone,

My EX has the Bose system with the 6 CD changer. On some discs, it shows the names and titles of the songs/band and on other discs, it doesn't.

For example, the last Red Hot Chili Peper CD displays everything. So did the previous Rush CD from a few years ago... Well, Rush's new CD was released yesterday (and it is amazing). Since their previous CD displayed all the names on my system, I assumed the newer one would too.... It doesn't. (just shows track #)

So - does anyone know the ryhme or reason why some CDs display this text and other CDs (even newer ones) don't???

:wtf2:

I can't speak for all different systems on ex, but my understanding is that nav-equipped systems get cd information from grace note database connecting to it wirelessly. If a cd in the DB, the info is displayed.
Also, some CDs have truck names encoded in them, others don't. I know after-market players are able to read this incoded names. I don't know if your player works like mine, connecting to the db or simply reads the encoded names.

I would check the format of the songs on the CD. Some are standard audio files other my be in an MP3 / 4 format.

I am talking about just reading the names on the music CD's purchased retail. My previous Rush CD displayed the text, the newest CD does not. I just don't understand why it is going backwards with the new one not working and the older release working???

(I have the 6 CD Bose changer, no Navigation)

While acknowledging my ignorance of such things I would venture a question. If the player reads Gracenotes database wirelessly, is it possible that a newly released CD has not yet made it into that database resulting in the player simply providing the tracks? If so, then at the point it makes it into Gracenotes you should receive the text.

I'm sorry I didn't make my point clear. I was implying that either
a) the CD is not in the DB yet, assuming your stereo get info from Grace Note. I don't know how to verify this though.
b) the track names are not incodeded on the CD. The fact that older CD has the names hardly has any significance. The technology is very old but not all CDs manufacturers it. The reason might be that, to my knowledge, the track names are read almost exlusively by aftermarket car stereos and the manufactures might decide not to bother.

Do only cars with Navigation use gracenotes?

I noticed the same thing on MY EX ... No Navigation no Gracenote .

I can tell you that Most of my "Home Burned" CD's did not show track name (CD - Text) . after some googling, it is all in the way the CD is burned. I downloaded a freebie called "Burnaware" and it allows the CD-Text to be included , Burned a few MP3 discs and the Track name shows in the EX display .

So .. sorry I can't be definitive but its the way the CD is created, it seems logical that the procedure would be extended to "factory" displays .
this doesn't solve the problem ,. but you can just say to your friends .. "Man , I think all CD manufactures should burn in the CD-text"

cds from the manufacturer mastered with the cd text feature will display audio info while those mastered without cd text will not. You also need a cd text compatible player. Hope this helps.
