A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Of late, my CD player has developed a sporadic chatter when the disc is spinning. Sometimes its loud, other times it disappears. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it? Does this mean the player is near the end of its life? Should I get another player from a junk yard or put in an aftermarket one?

I know how to handle and care for CD's. Mine are pristine. That is not the issue.

Some handle them by the center hole and then common for fingerprint oil to make the disc slip. The magnet ring that clamps down on the center can be weak with use to slip too upon acceleration.

Depending on the construction, some drive makers plastic cover the very thin sheet metal disc guide parts with a thin layer of close tolerance plastic, being in a high temp climate can make the plastic begin to warp to crack off pieces and the ragged edges can then be struck by the spinning disc.

So are you telling me that you've had this issue in your Sentra and found that is what caused it?

No. Problems in general I've found on players in other cars. If looking for exact causes then you open the unit up like I do. The center hole thing can happen to any CD or DVD player in the universe, meaning yours as well.
