I'm on changer number 2... it was covered under warranty, but now the "new" one bit the dust and my CD's... and it's out of warranty.

Has anyone else had trouble with their in-dash Bose (actually made by Clarion I found out after the first one died) changers going out?

Yep they go out all the time. We use a local electronics shop to have them repaired. Actually thats what you got as a replacement under warranty [ a reman unit] That is the only way nissan does it. Ask your dealer who they use to repair radios then contact them about having it repaired.

I had mine repaired for $100.00 by Clarion for the E-2 error code. . Some places want up to $300.00.

So CD changer #2 went out on me... good thing the stock system has a tape deck

Is there any way to use an aftermarket headunit without the $45 adaptor thing they say is needed? I tried using one after the first changer broke, but I got a lot of engine noise since there are no grounding spots to use (or good enough ones) behind the radio.

As a matter of fact, I bought my son a 01 Pathfinder at the end of May - from a dealer - never thought to check the CD player the day we purchased, but of course it was the first thing the kid checked out and it didn't work - it had an error code on it. We took it back to the dealer who told us they no longer made them and that they couldn't replace the indash type - so they stuck a changer in the back (attached to one of the wheel wells) and put controls under the dash - not very attractive or convenient.

Have you had any luck with yours?

Let me see If I can comfirm that. That does not sound right to me. If they arent available new I know you can have them repaired or exchanged for a reman unit.

The dealer replaced mine the first time... haven't gone back yet to see if I can have it done a second. I would honestly pull out the stock deck and put a quality MP3 cd head unit in instead (which I will probably do soon) since this is my second cd changer and it broke in only 2 years. You do have to get this $45 amp bybass (pretty sure that's what it is) so that you won't get feedback in the speakers with the aftermarket head unit... that's what happened when I tried this without the $45 box before I got the first changer replaced.

The stock speakers sound much better/clearer with a headunit that puts out 20+ watts rms per channel anyway. You can actually hear the music with the windows down on the interstate unlike the stock system.
