I know this has been done to death because I have spent hours searching and reading previous posts. Unfortunately I'm confused and the topic was last discussed some time ago.

There seems to be some conflicting answers that I'd like to clear up.

In my '96 Q45, the Sony 10 CD changer went on vacation and never came back. Yes, I've tried unplugging and plugging it back in a number of times. Still no go.

Has any one ever come up with a list of compatible changers that are just plug and play or plug and play with an adaptor?

Is the factory Sony unit the only model?? Has it been superceeded by another Sony?

It seems the Clarion CV-737 model is plug and play. - True?

Any others?? I've seen reference to Alpine units. Does anyone have any direct knowledge? Does it require an adaptor??

Given the age of the car I can't see re-wiring the car or replacing the existing system. Therefore, plug and play is best followed by adaptor plug and play.

Makes and model numbers would be appreciated (along with product numbers of any required adaptors).

ThanksPlanman

Try this.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/ebayISA...12995I myself am looking at this unit but the guy is very rude/weird on the phone. He ends up telling me that he doesn't want to sell to me. Reason being, I am asking too many questions. What do I expect for $135 ?

I'm not in my car at the moment, but don't recall a dedicated CD/CHG button. Just use a numbered radio button to change discs do you not?

Why not just send it into Sony and get it refurbished?

Sony Service Center37768 Hills Tech DriveFarmington Hills, MI, 48331phone: (248) 848-1690

The cost was $145 + $8 shipping = $153 total. They charge the same flat rate for any repair of this unit regardless of problems.

Hey Maxnix,I thought they charge $119, but maybe that rate is for units that are 7 years old or under. I think I'm going to go that route.I entertained that ebay auction for a minute cause $135 for a brand new unit is pretty good. But the guy is way too .....rude, ok he is an a$$.Anyway I'm calling Farmington Hills.

ps Maxnix,

Did you take the mounting bracket off? Or is it easier to send the whole thing? I'd think shipping would be less without the bracket.

Re: Sony repair.

Thought about it. But...please see my location - consider shipping, dollar difference etc.

Probably cheaper to buy a new one.

I lifted this from the post of someone who has done it. I would call them first, but I would assume you would ship with nothing attached to the CD player box, not even the control interface, unless they asked for it (since it is proprietary).

There are no new ones since they were discontinued several years ago. I much prefer the 10 CD capacity to my wife's 6 CD player. However, if you don't have extra XA-10B CD magazines, it might be better to consider the 6 CD player since the magazines are also out of production and are thus rare.

All right,

I just got back from shipping the unit. Took the bracket off as well.Max, you are right about the magazines. Lucky for me I have a couple of them.

As far as the interface goes, I don't even have one. I just control it from the head unit.

The "interface" to which I refer is the little auxiliary box on the outside of the case that provides the interface between the Sony CD Player and the Clarion (Bose) head unit.
