The Sony 10-CD changer in my 91 Q has been problematic for years. Every once in a while, it would try to put 2 CD's into one slot. Error signs flashed and it jammed. I was usually able to take it apart and fix it. Last time, I must have broken some part and it died. Calls to Sony and local shops got me nowhere. The parts manager, Mark Wildey, at Holman Infiniti, Cherry Hill, NJ gave me the number of an outfit in CA called SHORT CIRCUIT (408) 441-6170. who has an exchange program with SONY. For about $175 plus shipping, they will replace yours with a refurbished unit from SONY. By the way, most Nissan/Infinity dealers deal with this company and will be only to glad to send the unit for you for an additional $150. Dealing with SHORT CIRCUIT was great. The owner, Ray Mendoza, even answers his own phone and was very helpful. They also do Bose speaker/amp repairs.

question. Are all qs outfitted with the wiring for the changer? My q did not have a changer, and I would like to put one in there . I was wondering if the wires are already in place or do I have to do the whole shabang?

I believe all 94+ have the wire to the trunk from the head unit.

Others may confirm, although I can't recall anyone who has a Q from those years adding a changer, probably because the changers have not been produced for a few years. The Q used a Sony (two different models, I have been told) with a proprietary controller on the changer for the Clarion (Bose) head unit.

I'm also curious what is actually in the trunk in my 94Q. It did not come with a changer but I'm looking into the FM modulated changers and how easy/hard it would be to install if some of the wiring is already there. Is there a plug with power that can turn on the changer from the head unit, then all I would need to do is the connection to the antenna and fish the wired remote up to the front? Can anyone help out LongrunQ and me?

Research this first before you decide. Result not worth the effort unless you prefer really poorly recorded music.

I thought about going this route, but man, the negative comments FLEW from people who had tried it! Bose head units have DIN plugs on the back that you can jack into for any audio source. Heath has pinnouts for 90-96. Just apply 12V to one pin, and the head unit picks up audio on the other pins.

For what it's worth I have one of the original Sony 10 disc units. It jammed, and, in the unjamming process, I broke something. It was previously rebuilt by Sony. Free to any member who might want it for parts, etc., if you will pay for shipping. Brackets included, but no controller.
