Teddy first said it... and now i am...

we should all get them! it would be so much easier to communicate w people while driving say... on a mountain pass..? especially if there's a cop at the bottom of the hill and we can't see him or even jsut on the freeway caravaning to a meet or a boba place :D

they go from under $40 and up to over $150...

lol this passed my head too a long time ago.

get that and a police scanner and we'll be set!

I'll talk to my X, she knows a bit about those cb radios and other ones we can use. Can even get licensed for one of them. :D

One of the licensed ones allows you to tune into police frequencies and actually call in a report.

Like for IE: Ricer people at the bad area of the Autobacs meet. haha

that would be cool but we would probably have to run that 10 ft. antenna right?

I used to be into the whole CB thing. I still have 5 or 6 cb's laying around including a president base station with side band. A D104 lolypop and a 100watt superbee liner.

On a stock 5 wat radio depending on terrain you can get about 10miles unless it is dusk then you can shoot about 20miles if the atomosphere is right. On my base at dusk I have been able to shoot skip and talk to australia and hear transmissions from other parts of the world. I havent had my set up in some time.

Your options are endless with your set up. You can go with a fixed mount antenna that is always on your car or you can get a mag mount antenna you can put on and take off. It has a magnetic base which alloows you to attach it to any body panel. It is about 4ft in length. Like the engine in your car, the bigger the better. I ran a fixed 102 inch whip on my truck.

If you are going to run a cb its strongly advised you get an SWR meter to make sure your antenna is sound. This meter allows you to make sure you dont fry the finals in your radio. If you have a short in your antenna wire it will fry the finals in your radio when you key up.

That is all I gotta go take a 10-200 over and out.

You guys can all get amateur radio licenses (requires a test) and then you can go push a hell of a lot more power on 2m.

CB has a 5 watt max IIRC. Technicians (my class) are allowed to push up to 1.5 gigawatts (not that you'd need that much), but it would allow for a much smaller antenna.

The licensing has a lot of stuff to memorize. Think of it like the DMV license except for radio/electronics.

Id be down for that. if you guys are in so cal that is. and 1500 watts. that would like fry a bird as it flew by. im in the navy and we have some powerful stuff on the ship. We had a bird land on one of the antennas that had 1000 watts going to it. it got keyed up and the poor bird just kinda died after about a minute.
