Yes, I did replace it when I put the motor together several years ago.

Its leaking badly enough where there is ALOT of oil under my car.

Time for a front main seal.

What can cause this to leak? Is there anything I should do to make sure it seals well?

I have done them in the past, but never when the motor was still together.

Thanks guys - Evan

It just happens. It gets hot, cold, hot, cold, expands etc... and sometimes even though you think you did it right, they can get in there somewhat c***-eyed.

I just replaced my Front crank seal about 2 months ago myself. I just went and picked up a 300zx z32 camshaft seal, its the same part.

Just to confirm, your saying the z32 front main seal will fit?

I thought thats what I had read. I really gotta get this oil leaking beast curbed. It looks like the damn exxon valdese parks in my garage.

When you have the dampner off polish the surface that the seal rides on maybe there is a burr on it. Get the proper tool that will square up the seal in the motor.

Good tip, I will have to get the proper seal installer and polish the surface.

Thanks - Evan

check the fsm to be sure but i think you need to lube the seal before puting the oil pump back on. otherwise the dry seal on the crankshaft will burn it and it wont seal anymore.

make sure the front main seal lip doesn't fold up or bind when sliding it onto the crank.. the lip can roll onto itself a bit. if it does, either gently fix it with a screwdriver or pull it off and try again
