My 1992 Pathfinder (225000km) burns out its fusible link every couple of months. Fixing it is reasonably easy but neither I nor my dealer's service dept. can determine where the bare wire or grounded wire is. Is there a way to diagnose the problem without blindly replacing the starter etc.?

fuseable link would have nothing to do with the starter. The starter uses the positive battery cable to turn. You may want to have your alternator tested. But another way to test it would be to start wiggling harnesses till you find the one thats poping the fuselink.
