On a back road I was seeing what I can top out at (found it was the 5th gear limitor @135mph), anyway, I passed a car which turned out to be a cop. He was on the side of the road.. I have no idea why, probably sleeping, anyway He caught up to me and pulled me over, asked how fast I was going, like a genus I said 55mph Sir. I knew he didnt have me on radar because i've got a radar detector. Giving me a ticket for my 'percieved' speed while he was on the side of the road is really weak in court. Anyway, he just talked to me for about and 1/2 an hour then let me go. I was pretty scared though. I was worried he'd give me a ticket dispite having no proof, or he want to pop my hood. He said it looked like I was going about 95.. hah! shows what he knows anyway. Didnt really seem like a real cop though, like maybe a vice or somthing. Had a badge and a gun, but not a real cop car, it had those little lights in the grill and stuff..

It truly is a beautiful thing when the road gods smile down benevolently. Now just pray that you dont run into that cop again.

Ya, I really lucked out on that one. Usually any time I do somthing stupid I get caught. The very first time in my life I went over the double solid for the carpool lane I get pulled over. I see other people do it all the time, but the 1 time I do it I get pulled over. Luckly I talked my way out of that one too.

A good radar detector (read as: one you can trust) can get you out of some hairy situations...if the cop didn't radar you, you'll know a nd all you have to do is not give away how fast you were going..

"Do you know why I pulled you over?""no sir""Do you know how fast you were going?""No sir"

and if they happen to give you a ticket for a guess of your speed...as long as radar detectors are legal in your state you can use it to prove that they have no proof how fast you were going and can usually get off.

Yup, if I would have known he already hit me on radar i'd be more honest with him and try to be nice. But since he didnt know, he'd just have to guess my speed. So i'm not going to incriminate myself by telling him how fast I was going. It helps a lot. But the goal is to not get into that situation. The radar detector helps tell you there is a cop with radar around, but smart (non-lazy) cops only pulse the radar when there is a car they want to hit, not just constantly on. This is to combat detectors.

Just buy one of the ones that will pay for any speeding tickets. Even if it doesn't work you still get off pretty much

buy a scrambler and they should be able to tell unless it just causes the gun to clock at a lower speed, i dont really know how they work, just make sure you never get caught with one in your car, big trouble. Lucky fool, thats some smooth talking and some smoother luck

I got a cheap one($30) and I can usually spot a unit around the same time it goes off.

But when you're not particularly looking for the cops it helps a lot. Only thing that stopped me from going faster was the 5th gear rev limitor. I'm eventually going to try to hit 170mph, that's my goal. Hopefully with the GT25R i'll be able to do it.

yes detectors do work! and they are legal to use, in passenger cars, except in Wash. D.C. But you should find a good one, V1 and Passport's 8500x50 (formerly 8500s) consistently perform well in the test. Go to http://www.radartest.com for some details.

Vice cops are much closer to real cops IMO. I had a homicide detective pull me over because my 85 maxima fit the description of an armed robber. About 10 other patrol cars surround me with their guns drawn! I get out of the car when he tells me to and I'm scared out of my mind. All of the Public Enemy and NWA I used to listen to didn't seem appropriate at the time. After running my plates and checking my license the cop gives me his card and explains what just happened. He was a real cool guy and was just doing his job, which is fighting real crime. Not some looser traffic cop trumping up revenue for the county by issuing tickets. The whole situation lasted about 90 seconds.
