Are you talking about exhaust, cause if you are, you have to buy for what your car is not the motor.......cause a cat for a R32 is located in a diff spot then a s13 or s14....but if you aren't talking about a exhaust my appologies....

I got the Tanabe racing exhaust for my RB25DET!!..and love it!!!!

Always could go to a shop and have someone fab you up a nice SS testpipe, but you live in CA so can't help you in that department.

I was reading on SAU earlier today about cats and which flows best and whatnot. SidneyKid did a couple dyno runs using a 3" catback exhaust and tested several methods such as 3" gutted cat, 3" test pipe, 3" high flow cat, and 4" cat. He determined that obviously the best is the 3" straight pipe that made a good amount of hp more. Then in very close second was the 4" cat. I am going to look into trying to rig up a 4" cat or trying to find one. I just thought it was interesting that the 4" cat flowed better than supposedly high flow 3". Anyway just informing you guys didn't mean to steal your thread.~ANDREW~

I just did a quick google search and ebay search and jegs search etc etc. I don't know who the heck sells a 4" cat. Maybe that is a Aussie thing. I would imagine they would for some big trucks but I can't find any. Damn emissions...Well I guess I don't actually want to kill the world so I guess its okay.~ANDREW~

I would be more worried about passing emissions but I guess you could always just throw the cat back on for inspection purposes.~ANDREW~

I know this thread is older than the hills, but I have been calling around trying to find a shop locally that will make a 3" pipe to replace where my cat used to be. I have Top Hat mounts, used the stock turbo elbow, McKinney downpipe and I'm trying to connect it to my Apexi GT Spec exhaust. The problem is whenever I call a place to have them fabricate something, they're like "well that's illegal and we don't do illegal activities here." I'm like, "well what if I told you it was to replace a rusted out part of the exhaust on my dad's pick up truck?" Most are like well I already know what you are planning to do with it, so I just can't make it for you. Christ we don't even have emissions here in Iowa!

My question is has anyone gone with this setup? I'm assuming the GT Spec exhaust lines up with the stock KA24 cat. Sky240PWR has used the Megan test pipe and I'm hoping for a response from him as far as fitment and the length of the test pipe etc. I have approximately 11.25 inches between the downpipe flange and exhaust flange. How have those of you without welding equipment fabricated your own exhaust hookups?

whoa whoa whoa.. why are you even telling them what type of motor you have? most people have no idea wtf an rb25 is man, let alone the fact it was never produced in a 240sx, dont tell people more than they need to know, call a shop, just say I need to have exhaust hooked up.. they will be like ok come on down. easy as that.

All you need is some 2 bolt flanges with 3" ID and a length of 3" piping. Bolts flanges to dp and exhaust. Cut piping to fit and mark flange position and angle on the pipe. Then take it to any welder and have them weld it for you. Same idea for any kind of piping needed on the car. You don't need to know how to weld in order to make your own piping.

Shocker - I never said I told them it was for an RB25. I live in Iowa and nobody even knows what a skyline is let alone an RB25. They wear t-shirts around here saying like it is in style for real!

Bluefire - that's probably my best bet as the whole legality thing gets businesses worried. Plus that will be a lot easier than me trying to measure the flange angle difference between the exhaust and downpipe. And I think the flange on one end will need to angle slightly (laterally along the pipe) as well. I'll just go buy 11.25" of 3" tubing from them and hopefully pick up some flanges from NAPA today to mark it all up for the fabricator. You're the man once again Bluefire!

Nope. Nobody will touch it if it involves removing the cat. I even made up some BS saying I just want a pipe that I can swap the cat out during track events etc. Not a single shop wanted anything to do with it. I guess this is just one of those bumps in the road that makes the swap interesting/difficult and fun at the same time. If everything came together like clockwork, I wouldn't take so much pride in it.

hmm try like a custom shop, I mean for instance.. my stocker 240s exhaust rotted and fell off on friday.. wasnt funny lol, so i went to this like run down place, some dude with like no teeth who was basically a ball of grit, just welded some new piece on for me, and hung it with a muffler, 100 bucks cash, 20 more dollars if i wanted a reciept and i had to pay tax lol.. you dont have any shady places like this? if your trying monro, or like midus, they will never touch it, you need a ma and pa place.
