Do you live in an area that requires yearly or once every 2 years smog certifications? If not, why not omit them altogether? I can't do this b/c I live in LA but if you live somewhere that doesn't requie this, then why not just have your muffler shop cut them out. This is not the best advice b/c you'd be contributing to air pollution but it saves you $2800. Alternatively, a standard brake and muffler shop like Midas shuld be able to install new cats for you at prices way cheaper than $1400 each.
