I just too out both my cats because they were plugged up, and replaced the muffler with a magnaflow. Until about 4k its raspy, are VG's raspy motors? anything to do so I can take some rasp away?

thanks!

I have never heard Magnaflow sound good on anything but a HEALTHY V8.

I'll post a video as soon as I can. At 3500 and above sounds great, other than that its a tad bit raspy

interesting.
the ecu ignores the knock sensor above 3k rpm,
do you have a consult or know how to pull the codes from the ecu ?
(how too in a sticky here)
Could have retarded timing until 3k then BOOM, a good advance.
FYI
A bad knock sensor will not light the check engine light.
When the rasp stops, do you feel more pull ?

Disagreed. My company uses nothing but Magnaflow, and we're regarded as probably the best-sounding system for every car we build a catback for: www.brmexhaust.com Not one dissatisfied customer yet.

However, I've cut open damn near every popular muffler on the market, and I can tell you which ones are marketing hype and junk. :)

Put new cats in. It's doubtful they were "plugged up", and you're going to stink up the place without them.

A VG30 can be made to sound spectacular, but backyard hacking isn't gonna do it. We built a custom system for a customer a couple years ago - dual 2.5" downpipes into a catted x-pipe, into dual 18" resonators, into 2.25" dual pipes back to a pair of magnaflow mufflers.

Sounded like a baby Vette. Way sweet.

I didn't remove my cats, but I did bust out the ceramic cores out of them essentially removing them from the system. I then removed the silencer to make this video:

I don't know exactly how you would define raspy, but maybe you could use this video for comparison.

Ugh.

I sure hope you were wearing a respirator. There's some God-awful stuff in those, and it's impossible not to inhale it.

Kids, busting the center out of a converter is retarded. PLUS, there's places that will give you a nice chunk of cash for an old converter.

I just pulled the Borlas , we now have 2.5 in pipe from where the cats were, a magnaflow X and 2 unknown rather used 2.5 in magnaflow mufflers with turndowns right at the rear end cross member. The sound is deeper and raspier then before.

Chumps J30 is a track car only. But yes , deleting cats on a Daily driver is just wrong.

Cats on a track car = Fire!
Saying that I have it insured/tagged to take it to car shows on the weekends, not DD as the doors no longer open.
The old exhaust, wore out and damaged the baffles to the point of failure not to mention we wanted to move up bigger then 2 inch.
New exhaust pics on different computer.

My apologies, not directed at Chump's track car, but towards road cars (which is what I understand the OP's car is).

I'm LOVING the photo of your J next to that California. Auto enthusiasm at it's finest.

No need to apologize, there isnt a real excuse to run a stock or mostly stock street car cat-less unless they are really causing issues and there is no budget to do proper repairs.

That brand new California and the yellow lambo deliberately parked next to me, really nice guys! Wait I just noticed my modified roofline brings the windshield to a similar rake as the lambo!
