this is the answer i got from a reliable source
Thats a very good question that many people do not consider when they are doing their swaps. Do not take many people's opinions on the forums as fact, a very small amount of people KNOW what they are talking about. The perfect setup is the factory setup. This is in most cases hard to duplicate. I will tell you what you need to run if possible, if you need a long drawn out explanation as to why ask me and ill let you know later. Factory is best. factory, the left side of the T goes directly to the intake before the turbo, the right side goes to an oil baffle (the black box to the right of the turbo manifold) and then to the bottom of the block. this is perfect and ideal for EVERYONE. however, the nipple for the t to connect to the intake is on the stock rubber intake, which many people dont recieve, so they cant use it. the fix is to ghetto up a fitting on the intake to run that hose, the better fix is to upgrade to an s14/15 turbo, which there compressor inlets have the fitting built in. THATS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. many people with there swaps run generic or handmade intakes that do not have this fitting, so people put a filter on the left side of the T (like yours and the car in the dvd). This will allow the engine to run properly, however it has negative long term effects. It will increase sludge buildup and cause premature engine wear due to too much pressure building in the crankcase. To the right of the T is supposed to be a black box. this is an oil baffle. the insides are the same as a exhaust muffler, it catches oil and allows in the drain back to the pan so you dont burn it in your intake. THATS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. However, many people run tubular manifolds, which take up the room needed for this box, so this box should then simply be replaced which a generic oil catch can. One of the catch can fittings should go down to the block, one to the right side of the T. All others need to be blocked off. This is not opinion or my best guess, this is the way this stuff needs to be run for proper operation. if you run a filter on the catch can, the car will run horrible as it will cause a maf/vacuum leak. catch cans do not benefit you in any way, they are only a remedy to replace the stock oil baffle. if you install a catch can, you will have to empty it regularly and check your engine oil level more frequently. thanks -JAson
