hey guys!i bought a 92 240sx hatch about 6 months ago and the guy i bought it from put a megan racing catback exhaust system on it. now, it is extremely loud (due in part to the fact that it has 3 inch pipes) and i am constantly getting pulled over. i got a ticket for it actually a month ago and i had to buy a silencer to try to remedy the problem. needless to say, the car sounds and looks like rice crap because of the silencer. i was wondering if you guys new of any mufflers that were sure to quite it up a bit (not too much just enough so that im not getting pulled over 6 times a month) while also not inhibiting the performance or asthetics of the car. or if you guys have any other suggestions feel free to chime in. thanks!

I got that one and i absolutely love the sound! Even on my built high compression, fat cammed SOHC, it is deep, and only slightly louder than stock. Its just loud enough that someone knows you have an exhaust, but when driving, you dont even notice it until you get on it.

well those all seem to be good options but i was kind of wondering if you guys knew of any mufflers that i could bolt (or weld) on that would reduce the noise level a little. i am just really looking for an axle back muffler that will fit my application that will also be quieter while not disrupting the performance. does anyone know anything about those twin loop mufflers?

Sure you don't want to just sell your catback as a whole? A muffler shop could build you a nice exhaust. I like loud exhaust and haven't gotten pulled over. Of course down here in Texas things are a little different. Everyone has a LOUD truck so a car is no big deal.....lol Lemme know if you sell your exhaust. i need a 3" catback.

its more the diameter than the muffler thats making the volume, you need smaller piping, meaning new system

+1 for BRM, ive got a 2.5" with dual tips and never had any problems with the cops

thats kind of what i figured. i was just hoping that you experienced car folk would know of some cheaper alternative. i guess i should stop trying to cut corners and do it right so i dont have to do it again. in that case, i may be selling my exhaust. ill have to get back to you though, i need to do some more research first.

If you do decide to sell let me know. I will need an exhaust here soon. I am in the process of rebuilding an SR and all the work should be done in about two weeks and then it is going in my car. I dont have an exhaust yet. Let me know. Thanks, BoZ

APEXi N1 DUALS!!!!!!! Forget what everyone say's about it being loud. It's like music to my ears. I'm currently living in California right now and I pass cops everyday with me WOT, and they've never pulled me over.

I have 3" megan racing exhaust, with no cat, and stock header.. it's pretty loud, especially since I have no rear interior... just learn to keep it quiet while driving, which in turn will give you better gas milage too.. i've gotten pulled over once, but he said it wasn't because it was loud, but because there was a "big shiny can" hanging from my car..and I guess modified exhaust is illegal in Idaho..

if your looking for an exhaust in about two weeks im not your guy. i still have too much thinking to do. besides that means that i would have to have ordered recieved and installed my knew exhaust before i shiped it to you. two weeks would be unlikely.

i recently got my greddy evo TT for my S14, it's not that loud and i haven't been pulled over once for it. i also just saw that tanabe has new exhuasts out that produce less den 92db, i think those would b ur best choices. and the evo TT is 3 inch pipe with no silencer.
