So i was rushing to work this morning and I gunned it at around 40 mph, and my M45 made the worst noise imaginable. Loud knocking, loss of power, then turned off. It no longer turns on. I believe my engine is now shot at 101k miles. :frown: I took it to the dealer, and they will quote me in the next two days, but he said he saw a similar incident that ended up costing 16k in repairs. Luckily I have an extended warranty. Are there any engine parts that are usually not covered by extended warranties? This is the first time I have used it. I'm bummed and stuck driving a G37 sedan. The speed is there but the interior is 1/10 the quality.

You have the Elite warranty? or some other extended warranty?

If Elite, you should be good to go with a new engine. Elite is a warranty the dealers themselves sell, so it should be good for just about anything. You will need to pay your deductible though (for me that's $100).

It is actually not Elite warranty, but it is pretty comprehensive and covers even the Nav system (on paper). But I have never used it before. I am worried it will set me back a percentage of the 10k-16k. My deductible is $100 as well. I wish I would have read the forums thoroughly before I purchased the vehicle. I would have definitely purchased the Elite. It's kinda late now.

Definitely keep us posted on this. I'm curious as to what would cause the engine failure. Hope the news from the dealer isn't as bad as you they first mentioned....

Thanks for your support guys. I will keep you guys updated. The rep did mention that I bring him the original air intake so that there is no problems with adjustor blaming failure on the R2C intake. I think that was nice of him. Just wanted to add that when I looked at the oil as soon as it broke down it seemed to be bubbling, boiling perhaps. And had a coffee type color and very runny. I use Mobile 1 Full Synthetic. My coworkers thought there might be water leaking into the engine. I get an oil change every 5-6k miles. Make sure you guys keep all your oil change receipts so you do not have to run around looking for them later, unless you always go to Infiniti.

Just a quick update on this. Dealer has so far determined that coolant entered the engine and damaged a cylinder rod. The coolant also caused a severe explosion that caused two large holes in the cylinder block. Waiting on extended warranty ppl to come out to take a look at it more closely.

There is no sludge in the engine that would indicate abuse or neglect on my side. i hope warranty covers this.

How does something like this happen?

It's probably a failed head gasket..

These things happen, doubtful that anything you did caused it. :gotme

Nothing yet! Last thing they did is remove the heads, I have 3 pistons damaged, holes in block. Infiniti says they cannot determine cause of failure!! I thougth they were the experts. Adjuster should be there today to look at all of the pieces to determine specific part failure. im sure this is to see if they get out of paying. This has been such a headache.

Well, after several inspections and going back and forth between extended warranty ppl and Infiniti dealership ppl, they have decided to cover my engine. I am very very glad about this! The exact price is still unknown, but is narrowed down to 12k-15k. The question now is whether the warranty company will decide to install a refurb engine or a new engine. I will probably be without my car for at least another month.

In the meantime, ive been driving a G37 sedan loaner.

Just wanted to provide you guys an update.

So the $2750 I paid for extended warranty was well worth it in this case. I still wish I would have purchased the Scotsdale warranty.
