on a car with 150k+ is it worth it to replace the cat if there were major engine issues previously? will it eliminate existing & potential problems or improve performance significantly? Not with a high flow, just a stock cat. I've seen em for around $100 + shipping.

and...

anyone know of headers that wont adversly effect sensor function. I'm not necessarily looking for hp gains just efficiency. dont want to complicate things uneccesarily. are the OBX headers sufficient?

car has an injen intake and cheapo cat back exhaust.

i think this is what im looking for

the cat back exhaust does have a wider diameter than stock but its crap metal (sort of like the whole car) i cant see replacing it with a $400 high ouput system unless it rots through and falls off in the street.

sad that im replying to my own post

why do you want to replace your cat? what problems are you having that you think a new cat will fix?

well none i can detect at present in my layperson capacity

there some sort of hiccup when it idles and it makes sort of a popping sound when i rev it in nuetral, i think its normal but im not sure.

since im doing headers and there isnt any sensor on it that i know of i figure why not eliminate any future issues by replacing it while i have it apart (engine transfer). apparently its a high flow of sorts so i can consider it an upgrade. for $99 how can i go wrong? (or so im trying to determine)

otherwise i'll check the egr system, clean the aiv and check for codes.

if your going to replace the headers than ya do the highflow cat also.. jus to have the complete exhaust.. your runnin n/a and backpressure will be less which ppl say effects torque which makes sence but i remember seeing a forum/dyno on freshalloy i think it was that put on highflo cat with a full 3" and it didnt effect his torque numbers(stock motor), they stayed the same..

popping sound when you rev is NOT normal.

sorry i gave a bad description its actually after the rev. i dont think popping was such a good word either. anyway it runs well.

just trying to work out a methodology for what should be taken care of while everythings disconnected so I dont end up with diagnostic issues soon after.

for instance. from what i gather i may as well change the water pump while its easy to get to. It still works but it looks original and sure to crap out long before the engine. (i should hope)

bear with me im new to this sorta thing

i have a set of hotshot headers on the way i was planning on obx but for an extra $50 (thanks Matt)

if i get a catco oem direct fit instead of a highflow can i still expect improved efficiency? wont that help maintain adequate backpressure if i stick with a 2.5" exhaust system.
