While I agree running a cat/not running a cat doesn't make much difference in power (especially below say 400rwhp), the guy spouting off most of the "knowledge" in that thread has not clue how exhausts work.
O, and if anybody is thinking about running the "torque control" cat, please wait for me to get back to the states so I can punch you in the face, then you can buy it. Backpressure is ALWAYS bad for power, both low end and high end power. People confuse this all the time. Running way too large of exhaust pipes (that also have very little back pressure) kills exhaust gas velocity and there by low end torque. Having the correct size pipe for your power application with it being as smooth and straight as possible keeps exhaust gas velocity up and increases scavenging in the cylinders. The air going out the pipes helps pull the air behind it out of the cylinders in effect making more power. You can't just get a 5'' exhaust pipe, and put a restrictor in it to create backpressure for better low end. You'll have really slow exhaust gas velocity WITH a lot of back pressure. Worst of both worlds, and that's what the torque control cat bulls*** does. You know why they sell that? Because people buy it. BTW, all of that is in relation to N/A cars anyways. Turbo cars, bottom line, the bigger the better immediately after the turbine wheel. Sorry, [/endrant]
