Hey.

I own a 2001 infiniti I30 and im getting codes P0430 and P0325

P0430 is the catalytic converter bank2 P0325 is the knock sensor

Question??

When replacing the catalytic converter which converter is it the one in the rear of the car or the pipe the leads to the engine block?

Which converter is best for the car direct fit or the universal one they sell.?

Are there anything specific i need to know before or after replacing the converter myself.?

before you dump your converter, make sure that the ground wire from your converter is still connected to the body. My ground wire got ripped off somehow and caused a CEL code...i replaced the ground wire and disconnected the battery, and presto= ran better and smelled better too.

it would be the Cat just below the center console of the car, after the flexible Mesh at the end of the y-pipe.

if your knock sensor is back, your engine would be clunking when reving or accelerating...does it do that?

also, there is an O2 sensor after your Cat, if that sensor goes bad it will usually cause your computer to throw out the Cat as the problem when really its the 02 Sensor, keep that in mind.

I replaced 3 of the 4 o2 sensor one im trying to get out but its hard to reach and probally need some PB blaster.. Its the one connected to the J- looking pipe leading up to the engine block

I cant tell if the car is clunking when driving for the Knock sensor but the code is there.

I reset my computer twice and the codes still there.

1. if that 02 sensor isn't throwing a code, leave it alone. Did you replace those three 02 sensors b/c of a code, or just for the hell of it?

2. the knock sensor is under the intake manifold and requires that you take off the intake manifold to get to it...it's not tooooo hard if you know your way around the engine a little bit. beware that the dealer will KILL YOUR WALLET to replace the knock sensor for you...so get a Haynes Manual and do it yourself

poo

well, it's too late to run a seafoam cleaner thru the engine b/c youve got new 02 sensors and it'll probably jack them up.

dang, i cant remember if the Cat is flanged or welded in. if it's not flanged i guess you could get it flanged if you want to. I would recommend the Magnaflow High Flow cat :-)...and check the ground wire :-)

jltibbs could tell you which cat needs replacing...i'm not %100 sure what the diff is for Cats between my 2000 Maxima and your 2001 I30.

the ground wire is bolted from the body to the Cat located closer to the middle of the car, and has a small uninsulated wire that connects the two. It's uninsulated b/c i'm sure if it were it would probably melt :-/

I have a 99 i30 Cali spec which the knock sensor is even more difficult to get to but I did it "WITHOUT" removing the manifold.

I used some directions around here. It looked easy from the pictures until I got to my car and saw that it was nearly completely blocked in the California model. I remember that I needed a swivel head though.

The knock sensor will also cause ghost codes such as o2 sensors. Replace knock first.

bank 2 catalytic converter is the one near the radiator, the cat is the one after the exhaust manifold. Ignore the knock sensor code, they don't turn the CEL on.
