ok, i recently got my cat and cat back system, but had to take it to meineke for installation (old one was welded on...) After installation everything looked ok, except the catalytic converter looked upside down. Went to autozone to return a part and they said its supposed to be on the bottom. Which is it? I asked the guy if the heat shield was supposed to be on top and he said yes. Driving it back home I noticed this weird sweet sickening smell coming from the engine bay. Is it possible they installed the cat backwards or something? Dont wanna drive my car till i clear this up so please, i need answers to these Qs...

Not really sure if there's a top or bottom orientation for a catalytic converter, but there is a direction of flow for the cats. Anything is possible, they could have put it on backwards. Lift and check. If it's not right, go back and have them do it again.

As long as the cat is on flow direction wise correctly, it doesn't matter how it's rotated.

aight, looks like they installed it right, called magnaflow and confirmed. Apparently that smell is grease from the exhaust burning and it should clear in a few hundred miles.
