The car has developed this ticking/clicking sound in the last few months. Based on my research it appears to be the CAT. Watched a couple of YouTube videos and found similar sounding ones where the converter was the culprit. Not sure if it's one side of both. Cannot figure out due to the power steering whine that is also present, that I've been ignoring (hoping to be just low fluid). Kind of sounds louder on passenger side. Wondering if it is possible for them to go bad but not trigger the SEL. I have no lights, no codes. The car drives fine except for the noise. Wondering if anyone had to deal with it in their 3.7 M/Q.

Thanks

Just for the sake of the community, from your research, how is clicking/ticking linked to the CAT?

You're lucky, 3.7 primary and secondary cats bolt on as one unit to the exhaust manifold. You can simply remove it and verify whether or not the substrate has broken apart. Plenty of options as far as replacement, either OEM or aftermarket.

armybrat - yes, lucky indeed, compared to your plight with the V8. I will definitely go hi-flow/aftermarket. No reason paying twice the price for OEM.
