Got my Q45 a few days ago and just had the service engine light come on.

I got the code checked for free at Midas. It came up P0430 which is catalytic converter operating below threshold.

Something must be making the cat go bad.

What are recommendations for next action? I'm willing to spend some money if it saves me money in the long run, but so far the car runs fine.

How many miles does your Q have? Depending on the year and how many miles are on it, you might be able to get it replaced for free.

Here's some info on catalytic converter laws. It'll help you figure out where you stand.

Good luck!

Buying a used car WITHOUT paying an expert [$200-$300] for a full detailed inspection leaves you subject to the usual $3,000 in final last straw defects that cause the car to be for sale in the first place.

The point is the sale price is not nearly as important as the cost to restore the vehicle to satisfactory nechanical shape after you own it.

Would you rather have a $4k car that needs $6k in repairs or a $6k car that only need $2k in repairs?

Some people buy $2k cars that need $8-10k in repairs.
