cat for now, but test pipe soon, if its the gardena in cali that u live in, we wont pass smog w/o a cat but a lot of guys put the cat heat shield back on and cover the test pipe and sometimes that works

yeah,i live in the gardena in socal.but what i thought is,whatever we do,we can't pass the smog here in cali.so what i am worried about is the noise issue.

get a straight pipe with a resonator, it'll still be loud.

I have a project silvia resonator/test pipe along with N1 dual and it turned a beautiful smooth deep tone into a raspy gurgley fart. Of course my KA is still in there so it may be better in two weeks when I drop in my SR. I sure do hope the turbo smoothes out the tone ALOT.

sorry, I may have mislead you with lack of punctuation. I meant that it turned the beautiful, smooth sound of the N1 dual into a raspy ugly gurgley fart. I would hate to hear it with just a straight pipe because the resonator doesn't resonate very much.

Do these things take time to break in? I know that after about a month my N1 dual started sounding smoother and better, but I don't know about the cat replacement test pipe. I'm trying to keep a glimmer of hope because I hate the honda sound. Well, it isn't high pitched like a honda, but it's still raspy.

Smooth sounds depend on turbulence. Do you have an aftermarket downpipe and turbo outlet.?

Wondering where you're getting your 5zigen Rocket exhaust from? And how much?

My car is a 95 240sx with KA, awaiting the SR to be dropped in from the front clip.

For now, I have an HKS Dragger II catback exhaust with insert silencer tip and a Project Silvia resonated test pipe. It sounded very loud at first, but as I use them more, it sounds smoother and quieter. I believe that the project silvia restonated test pipe and the catback resonators need break in.

However, a few days after the installation of my testpipe + catback, I installed an intake desgined for the SR. So maybe the increased in air intake made the engine breath more and thus, allowing the exhaust to become more efficient. That was what I was thinking.

But nonetheless, the exhaust tone now sounds better than when I just installed it.

Keep in mind that the resonated test pipe from project silvia is only 75mm as opposed to the claim 80mm. The smaller 5mm is unlikely to hinder performance much so we could feel it, but it is not nice to have an 80mm downpipe and 85mm catback and be stuck with a 75mm test pipe in between.

Well, still flows better then having a cat, even if its high flow, nothing beats a straight open path.

I was running with a dummy cat, but now I'm going back with a 3" catco hi-flow cat just because I hate smelling the exhaust fumes. Gives me a damn headache.

i just used a section of 3" muffler piping, cut the flange off the end of my N1, welded that on 1 side of the pipe, attatched to dowpipe, then welded the other end to the end of the n1.
