run the cat. the little power you gain (if any at all) isn't enough to justify 1. getting caught by pigs and the huge fine associated with no cat (or at least in ca, it's 1600). 2. cars pollute enough, the little you'd gain will bite you again later in the butt when your kids have asthma.

LOL it won't ncessarily damage the engine. You'll loose a bit of pull. Of course the Cat will get clogged over time. Thats why people have to replaces their cats every so often. if anything, put a Hi-flow cat. Or if you only want to do track events (use your car for only those kind of events), then do a test pipe. A test pipe is basically just, well a pipe that goes in instead of your cat.

Test pipe, but keep your cat around for inspection purposes.

yeah, get a bolt on test pipe, and a bolt on cat, so when emissions comes along, you can quickly change it!

Not having a cat should not make the car backfire more...You will however lost a tiny bit of low end torque (trust me, you won't notice it) but gain a bit of top end power.

Running open headers is a stupid idea, I hope that was a joke.

Hey man, if you're gonna go with a full 3" exhaust then go w/o the cat. If you have emissions or actually want a little bit of torque at the cost of spool time, run a high flow cat, they're only $100

i run a bolt on test pipe track season and the cat the rest. only time i see backfire or flame is when i run the car hard, mostly on track, so it isnt much of an issue
