is it possible to "saturate" a cat to a point wherein it set's the fault for cat inefficiency?? i installed a hoshot header on my '98 ga16, so i had to remove the manifold cat, and relocate a new one under there, so i purchased a top speed pro1 free flow cat, it's not a honeycomb like the oem ones, but the catalyst's are on the sides. although i was thinking that under high load it may not do it's job right, but i noticed this occurs under normal driving, but when it's like for long distances, like 70 miles or so, it sets the fault. any insight on this one, anyone??:help

yes this can happen with non oem cats and o2 locations. OBDII cars are very specific on cat construction and the location of O2's if you reposition them or change there design they will throw a code. you getting the po 420 code I am sure. there is not much you can do to correct this since the tests during driving are very specific. obviously your cat does not do the job well enough to satisfy the test results. nothing short of reinstalling all the oem stuff is gonna stop this from happening.

The self test is performed once the O2 heater self test is performed and the car is at a cruising speed above 50 mph for more then 1 min.

so if i keep the car under load, this should delay the tests, although this may pose a problem when annual test and emissions come. thanks.

keep your stock stuff handy. bolt it up a couple weeks before the emissions test and the codes should clear out after a few drive patterns have been satisfied.
