I've used Castrol (reg, blend, and full synthetic) in my cars forever and a half and I've never had any probs whatsoever. Just wondering what oil brand you guys use. I know Mobil 1 is pretty big, but why? To me, it seems to be of cheaper quality, or maybe I'm just imagining things.

This past Saturday I bought a 5 quart bottle of Castrol 5w30 and it cost $14.73, as opposed to the Mobil 1 equivalent, which cost only $10.13. That got me thinking; why does it seem that the majority use Mobil 1? Is it because of the price, or quality? If quality, what proof do you guys have that it's better than, say, Castrol, Pennzoil, Valvoline, etc?

What I usually do is run my car to about 15K, then I switch to Castrol Syntec Blend. Then at 25K, I switch to Castol full synthetic. That's just how I've been doing it for the past 13 years and all of my cars ran great without a single problem.

Feedback from Mobil 1 users as to why it's better than all other brands? I know there are some die-hard Mobil 1 users out there, but I want to know why you use it. If there is a valid reason? If so, then I will switch because it cost 1/3 less than Castrol does.

A poll below to see which brand is the most popular. It doesn't matter if it's regular, a blend, or full synthetic. I just want to know which brand you use.

It doesn't matter, seriously It doesn't, not one bit. Some synthetics may have a different polymer or 2, but really (and this goes for non-synth oils too)....there has never been a true objective test that proves one oil better than the other, seriously it doesn't matter...ask a NASCAR mechanic, seriously they'll tell you "whatever they are paying me to wear, that's the best"

Just as important than the oil that you use is the filter that you use. Take a look at this site for some great analysis on most of the namebrand filters.

I've used both Mobil 1 and Castrol in a couple of my cars. My first indication would be that Castrol is of higher quality. The best thing you can really do to determine how WELL the oil is being used would be to do a full on oil analysis.

http://www.blackstone-labs.com could do this for you. If you want to take it that far

There is no RED LINE in the pool choices!?!

Redline MTL / MT-90 mixture (60% MTL, 40% MT-90) is the best for the Manual Transmission fluid. Goes from extra clunky/dislocating the leg of some small animal to butter smooth

Used both Mobil 1 (5W-30) and Castrol German Synthec (0W-30)

I love Castrol, felt smoother and didn't burn oil when I had my '02 Acura RSX.

I'll be switching to CGS once we used up our free oil changes.

I've always had older vehicles ('82 datsun p/u,'80 toyota p/u, '88 rx-7, '95 bronco) and always ran q-state full syn. Ready to switch my '03 Ram diesel over to full syn soon.

Too much hassle to change it myself when I can have it done for a few buck and I don't have to worry about disposal, etc. I had them put in Full Synthetic Mobile 1 at 5,000 miles.

When I had my 02 SpecV, I always used Mobil 5w-30 full synthetic and once used Amsoil 5w-30.

Some dealerships throw freebies in when you buy a new car. A lot of times, you'll get X amount of oil changes/maintanece services for free.

I always used Mobil 1 synthetic in my '02 RSX, but given that I know next to nothing about oil, that was just because I had read about synthetics and mobil 1 had the right weight for my car and I stuck with it.

For my coupe, I imagine I'll have them put in full synthetic for my first oil change, and all thereafter every 5k or so. But I don't care which brand they use.

AMSOIL's synthetics, ROYAL PURPLE, and REDLINE are the best products these days.

and expensive as hell to boot.

Agaion like I said it really doesn't matter whatsoever, but I just changed @ 3750 to Castrol Syntech as it was the featured synth oil...so there ya go it may be Mobil 1 next time who knows?

Changed my oil for the first time this evening at the 2k mark (5k here after). It's a snap. The filter is one of the most easily accessible in recent memory. Weird, the Altima uses the same filter as my Accord (partial to Purolator Pure One #14610). CVT transmission fluid also looks like a cinch to drain, with the plug right on the bottom of the transmission. Rumour is it is a 7 qt fill, due at 60k and the fluid from Nissan is a whopping $17/quart. Can anyone confirm that info?
