Both castrol edge and mobil 1 extended performance claim to have 15,000 mile or one year drain interverals. Which one do you think is better?

I do Mobil 1. Never been a fan of Castro products. But I'll add, I don't fall for the 15k propaganda either. I change mine every 5k.

Here's why, I had Benz that when sold I was told the same thing. Well after investigation. The 15k mark means using Mobil 1 AND a fleece oil filter. Guess what, they didn't make a fleece filter for my model Benz at that time. However, the 15k stickers were all over the engine compartment. Not sure if M is like that. But I dont take my chances. Marketing departments are known to stretch the hell out the truth...read the fine print is what I advise b4 doing 15k oil changes.

Its easy at $13/quart I'll pass on the Castrol. Amsoil @ $8/quart is Mobil 1 + amsoil additives that beats the industry.

I am sure I will stir up a few demons here with my comments, but that is ok.

The two most important elements to extended engine life are, in order of priority:

#1 The Oil FILTER#2 The Oil

The two best filters available right now are the Mobile 1 Extended Performance followed by the Amsoil EA012. the best value is the Mobile 1 extended.

So, spend a little more on a better filter, run dino oil that meets all manufacturer specifications - changing the oil and filter at manufacturer recommended intervals and save the money you'd otherwise waste on synthetic oil.

If you absolutely insist on running synthetic oil you must use the best filter and then do not change the oil until you have it tested and the test indicates a change is needed.

Scrap all this information if you have unlimited dollars to throw around. Most people waste their money when they use synthetic because they use ineffective filters and change the oil far too early.

I used AMSoil in my Altima and already bought it for the Infiniti. great oil. the best way to know which is good for you is to send a sample to blackstones labs. they do test on the oil for $20 and tell you if it's good, what chemicals are in it and how much, and how much longer/shorter the oil can be driven on.

The VK requires Amsoil EAO13 filter not EAO12
