We know Mobil Syn ATF works for 200,000 miles in Q transmissions...........Never heard of anyone trying Castrol.

Syntec should be good enough if flushed like Mobil Syn ATF every year or two depending on color change.

I can't offer any info on the Castrol, but there was a discussion about the temperature benefits of Mobil 1.

<search is your friend :D>

It's as ok as any generic Dexron type III equivalent........clean and fresh is more important than exact brand except at very hot and very cold extremes!

Max:

Folks here really give the Mobil1 fluid a lot of props.

The castrol is likely a gruop III base oil they never use anything higher (excpet in their european formulations).

Mobil1 should still be group IV as far as I know.

Fred..:)

Mobil makes a lot of money out of very very little real world advantage. 'Group III' and 'Group IV' base oil molecules look nearly identical in space, have nearly identical chemical and physical properties and their performance in ATF is essentially identical (except at extremely low temps like -40 and colder-BTW at -40, C and F are same)

Except where ATF temp gets way above what the transmission parts will take anyway, the life expectancy of the AFT is determined by the additive package. Tain't much difference. Unless you change the fluid and filter every 30-50K miles, nothing will give you extremely long transmission life (>150Kmiles) in typical stop and go driving.

Most times ultra premium fluids only offer 10% at best improvements yet can cost 2-3 times as much.

I would rather see you save the money and change [flush] all the ATF every 15,000 miles or when ever the color shows a change.

Unfortunately the glue and coatings can't take much over heating and the damage is permanent and no amount of fluid changing or super fluids can fix the damage.........why a AT temperature gauge is so important..............gotta pull over when the ATF exceeds 220F.............climbing long hills in 4th gear or summer overheats.

I use expensive Mobil 1 because the money is little compared to the cost of transmission replacement [I can get mine for $2,000 installed], still an extra $50 [differential ATF cost] per year..............if I get an extra 9 months to a year life extension it is cost effect on a remanned unit.

When people buy a used car they don't seem to budget a $3,000 transmission replacement into their thinking.

I keep telling people--oil is cheap, hard parts expensive.

let's do the math. Buy a good Q45 with 50K miles for $20K, and drive it another 100K miles,at which time it will be worth say $5K. 3000 mile oil and filter at Jiffylube for $25 cost 0.75 cents/mile. 5000 mile changes cost 0.5 cents per mile. So---for 100K miles , the difference in cost for 3000 vs 5000 mile oil changes is -- $250.00!!!! .

Transmission flushes every 30K miles @ $100 will cost $300--and most probably avoid a $3000 transmission replacement.
