There was an article in today's newspaper that some couple that turned their car in for a $3500 rebate were surprised to find their car for sale at $5900 on the dealers lot. Come to find out the dealer never turned the car in for destruction and instead paid the $3500 out of his own pocket because he saw the car was worth more than the rebate. Wonder if there are other instances of this happening. I wonder how many that took advantage of this program now have regrets, especially when they find out they will have to pay income tax on the rebate, whereas they wouldn't have had to pay income tax on a trade-in.

Sounds like this couple needs to make sure their paperwork is redone since they didn't really receive the CFK rebate. That whole program was a major cluster....

Any body is welcome to use my posts for reference as long as they are a warm and friendly person. If you are mean, me and my lawyers will slap you.

Nice signature Trumpkin. It's too bad everyone in NICOclub is not willing to share the information they post without threatening to dispatch their army of lawyers on retainer to come knocking on your door. An example of the idiocy posted in Q45T*ch's signature:

Microsoft once sued Linspire because it was once called lindows. Aparently the dows part of there name was to close to Windows.

Point is you quoted Techs name and could be at risk of a law suit.

Just kidding Tech were all messin with you, Well I am.

The Cash for Clunkers thing sucks for that couple. Heath is right, they need to make sure everything is redone in order to not pay the extra taxes next year.

For the rest of you, DROP THAT SUBJECT. You're beating a dead horse, and I mean DEAD.

Back on course please.

i'm like this if the car is'nt worth more than $3500 and they're getting the full $3500 it should'nt be a problem imo.

yea true enough your not supposed to resale the car's.last time i read up on the cfc dealer's were trying to extend the deadline so they could get the car's in the system for the cfc. maybe this dealer could'nt get it in on time so he did the next best thing...sell it.

It is nice to know folks believe everything they read, especially when they want to believe it.

How many millions do you think folks got for suing after spilling hot coffee on their lap? That was in the papers, too.

That has happened a lot. There are many other people that have discovered the same thing. Car salesmen are sharks in a lot of cases and money comes first. Some people have no shame or decency, yet have the flag held up high unlike their morals.

I'm sure this is very common, the dealer I took my baby to was PISSED when they saw the car was stripped of everything.

Where did you get the idea that the rebate was taxable? It may or may not have sales tax but not income tax.

That's what I read in an article. Said the amount of the rebate was considered income and was supposed to be reported. I don't know if they left it up to the recipient to report it or the dealer reported it or what. Maybe the person who wrote the article didn't know what they were talking about.
