This is news? Of course the cash is fake. They flash it around in public and winnings are taxable.

All increases in "wealth" are taxable.

I don't get the "They flash it around in public" part...

I don't get it either. I guess MoD is too cool to get fooled once in a while...

Also, if it's fake AND exactly the way they say it's fake in that article, why do people always tell him a different destination address when they get in?

I honestly figured it was common knowledge that the passengers were cast. Think about how TV works. The ''surprised'' people think they're on their way to a show somewhere else.

Think about it for a minute...legal issues of showing peoples' faces on TV, cameras placed around the cab, legal issues of awarding prize money, all the paperwork involved, the amount of editing that has to be done (consider the shout-outs, etc. and the fact that there are NEVER any '''bloopers'' or goofs, the way the cell shout out contact ALWAYS answers right away). Then consider the way the exterior shots from cameras not mounted on the van have to be planned, and how thick NY traffic is. The routes would really have to be pre-planned.
Also, the way a lot of the passegers act sort of gives away the fact that they're cast.

I wasn't trying to be condescending or a know-it-all...I just honestly never had the impression the show WASN'T "fake".
Just seems to me there was always more evidence suggesting that the show is staged than otherwise.

As for the comment about flashing the money around, much of the time they'll get out with the money fanned out like a deck of cards, waving it around at bystanders. That's not exactly wise. "Look at me, I just won $500 and now I'm going into this store, come find me and steal it please."

^ exactly. I can see that happening especially when they win 1500 or more. They never put it in there pocket and yes, they do always fan it around.

I dont think its so much as faked, but prescreened. Its NYC. People get robbed and people get murdered all the time. Of course they are not ganna just pick up any ol body. They have to make sure they are legit first.

I am dissappointed though. I've always wondered why he never picked up completely wasted or cracked out people in After Midnight. I thought those were just edited. It looks like real money too. Maybe it is but they make sure they get it back. I would try to break for it in the alleyways if I won alot of money. Thanks b**ch!!

YEAH!

NO WAY the producers would be able to think of the fact that people in taxi cabs usually have random destinations.

Welcome to TV guys. It turns out when you run a billion dollar business you don't often leave the results to chance. Why waste time and money taping sections to cut out when you can simply screen first?

Go to a TV taping, they are free (but very boring). I did a fundraiser taping of deal or no deal. When the guy opened the critical case and they didn't get the reaction they wanted they closed it back up, directed him and did it again.
It is TV, they do what is the most entertaining for the least coin...as real or as fake as that needs to be.

My brother-in-law and his buddies where actually on the Canadian version of this show(which I believe is the original). They where not cast, they hailed the "cash cab" unbknownst to them and actually won some cash wgich they split 3 ways. It was fun to watch.
