cas wiring?

ok so i was shortening my cas pigtail while hard wiring my ptu in, BUT the cas wiring has a silver mesh of wiring around the regular colored wires? anyone know if this needs to be connected to anything? kind of like the outer silver mesh wiring on a tv signal cable...

thats shielding.... it needs to run the full length of the wiring... normally its grounded as well
