If you leave the spark plug out of #1, as you rotate the engine over you'll feel air blowing out of the plug hole, that's the compression stroke.
The other way is, with the valve cover off, the cam lobes for #1 will be pointing outwards to sides of the engine.
Either way, when the cam lobes are pointing out, or you feel air coming out the plug hole, point the crank mark to TDC (2nd from the left). Now you're at TDC!
Stab the CAS in with the mark on the gear lined up with the left mark on the CAS body, then you should set the timing with a light.
