how do you know if your CAS is going out? or has already gone out... mine makes a weird clicking sound? but when you press on the cover it stops making noise? it's on pretty firm though?

you know I've asked that question before and never really got a solid answer.

prolly something along the lines of noisy worn bearings inside, broken keyways inside spline, or not being able to shoot 15-17btdc within the CAS's range of motion??

someone with more experience with CAS symptoms on our motor chime in.

The trigger disc is located by the bearings so that the bearing endfloat can be no more than 0.5mm I'd say.

If you are hearing ticking noises, then maybe someone has had the CAS apart and bent the disc, or one of the two bearings has worn out inside the CAS. This is unlikely but possible, if the engine has been over-cleaned by the importer.

I recommend getting a precision screwdriver, and removing the black cap carefully on the front of the CAS. Put some light grease on the bearing, that might stop some of the noise, but the bearing may be too far gone for the oil/grease to help.

It's simpler to look for a replacement.

Along the lines of what dattodude said, you should also check the alignment of the upper timing cover as well. Also putting a little grease in the back helps as well. But if anything else is wrong with cam angle sensor or you don't have all three bolts in it, you run a risk of breaking-of the camshaft CAS drive key in which then you will need another camshaft.

well i pulled it out... and ums... there was a bit of rust... is that common? i'm thinking no... i just sprayed it with wd40 (no idea if thats gonna help at all...) i did pop off the black cap with the mitsu symbol on it. i wasn't exactly sure where to apply the grease? i didn't see any bearings? so i just recapped it...

well i'll let you guys know how it goes... i'm most likely gonna go to the junk yard this weekend. they just got an 88' pulsar in a couple months ago. do you guys know if those came equipped with the secondary butterfly control solenoid at all? i know i've read that the head is the same... but not sure about the intake manifold. well any help is greatly appreciated.
