Guys, The CAS that came with my motor is broken due to the impact the car sustained. I tried searching for the part number here in the forums but no success. I went on ebay to see if any of the auctions for RB CAS have the part number and from what I can tell, the CAS I have is completely different! The cover and engagement gear are totally different but it definitely engages the cam gear correctly. The part number for the one I have is 23731-5L300. Can someone reference this number and tell me where it came from? My supplier seems to think that it's actually from an R34 so either I have an R34 head (with VVTi) on my R33 block or I have an entire R34 set (with R33 transmission). He also assured me that he personally pulled the motor out of an R33 in Japan. WTF?!

Can you share the answer to you question with us?

Might be a good referance point for others in the future.

I am thinking my CAS might be bad right now.... I thought that most CAS were interchangable... but they apparently are different. So, i would like to know as much as I can about them before I get a new one and maybe get the wrong one.

Thanks

Alright, this may be something that should be added to the parts sticky but I'd hold off on that until I get my CAS situation resolved.

The CAS that came with my motorset was damaged when the donor car got hit in the left front. According to Jon Powell and everyone else I've spoken to, it looks TOTALLY different from any other RB CAS anyone has seen. I don't have a picture of mine but I have a pic of one from an SR20 which looks EXACTLY the same, save for the part number and engagement gear. Here's what it looks like:

Jon was able to crossreference the part number on my CAS to the r33, r34, laurel, and stagea RB25DET. Right now, I believe I either have a very, very late model Series II or an R34 motor with variable valve timing (how can I tell by looking at the motor?) Anyway, I removed the black plastic cover from the CAS and found that the thin metal wheel inside was shredded in the collision. My supplier is trying to source me a new one but if he can't I may be able to swap in a wheel from a different CAS.

If anyone has any further info, please don't hesitate to post it! I need all the help I can get at this point!
