recently my cam angle sensor backed the bolts out which I guess I forgot to totally tighten down. Mind you this is on a fully built s13 blacktop...on solid motor mounts. Anyway it had the breaking up problem up around 5k...popping really bad...this was due to the timing being off on the CAS which I corrected by taking the valve cover off and setting the crank to TDC and checking 10/12 on the cams...everything checked out lined the right dot up ...installed and voila ran fine. The megan manifold turned quite cherry red though before due to the a/f mixture being ignited in it. Anyway was running fine actually better for a couple days. Then it started doing it again tonite, right around 5k again. Put the timing light on it...and it's way advanced...AGAIN...I find this funny though because the bolts were really tight and the CAS could've not moved at all. Could this be a bad tensioner or just the chain skipping ...but I don't understand if TDC and 10 and 12 are still perfect. Needless to say the car is a F'in blast when running right....but when it starts running like ***. If someone has had this problem please let me know...it has to be timing...only ignition issues would cause the turbo manifold to get that hot.

You're going to really need to stick a light on the car, and verify timing that way.

Even with following that FSM procedure, some cars are off.

If you're saying the car is running like a banshee, but manifold is glowing cherry red, it's certainly due to timing.

the knock sensor messes with the timing, also are you checking the timing with the tps unplugged?

WAS running like a banshee...now runs like poop. I know it's timing...I think blinker fluid answered the problem...I'll try timing it with the tps unplugged...I has no idea you had to do that though...is there a series of procedural steps?

You gotta get your car into timing mode in order to get the timing to set correctly.....

yeah that's what I've found out. I still don't see how it could THAT far off though...I'm going to check the links on the chain...the guys @ Enjuku told me to count...my luck I'll have to rip the motor back out ...set the timing chain again and go through all this bs again.

Enthalpy has a nice guide on his website

http://www.rs-enthalpy.com...tuning tech section IIRC.

And they can def be off. If those gears don't mesh perfect, it can easily through that cas off...
