hey guys my cas is fully counterclockwise....i checked my timing according to fsm and was about 17 degrees...........shouldnt the cas be in the middle? the car is running decent but not like when i first got it(running mint) ive played with the timing since(bad mistake)i cant seem to get my idle below 1200 rpm with tps unplugged....does this have to do with the cas being fully counterclockwise.........again i followed fsm as to put the car in timing mode but idle will NOT drop below 1200rpm......but when i plug in tps the idle drops to 850.......is it bad that the cas is fully counterclockwise???????? thanks

Fully counterclockwise... if it's fully counterclockwise, it would be back to it's original location? Clarify please.

If you read the manual, isn't there a part where it says to adjust the idle screw when the tps is unplugged to get it to 850. But I assume you already did this.

If there's no possible way, pinch the hose that bridges off of your intake plumbing before the throttle body with some sort of vice grip. Don't completely pinch it or the car will die. Just enough to get the idle you want for timming. Then setup the timming. If you really messed it up. I'd reset the timming completely as per heavy throttles sr swap guide.

yes i had the idle screw bottomed out and idle was 1200 rpm.....(tps unplugged) if i bottom the idle screw with tps plugged in the car almost stalls......if i could only set timing with tps plugged in it would be great.

im not 100% sure where the cas was originally..............on heavy throttle all they say is set the timing to 16 degrees...there isnt really a step by step process.........i did use a plug wire between the coil pack and plug to check timing......one time i did pinch that hose and the idle stayed low after releasing it......but now if i pinch it and let it go, the idle just climbs back up to 1200.......its weird sometimes i can get it to go down and sometimes i cant.......so what your saying is i can pinch the hose with vicegrips or something until it idles at 850 then time away? the idle screw does not matter?

also i reading some posts about how some have there cas fully clockwise? shouldnt the cas relatively be in the same position approx. for all redtops? i mean why is mine fully counterclockwise and others fully clockwise? that seems strange to me.........my car is running decent but doesnt seem to be pulling as hard as it used to before i started playing the timing...

You should also disconnect the IACV-AAC plug as well. Do this after the engine is running.

On the redtop, there are two plugs between injectors 3 & 4, near the back/firewall side of the engine. Of the two, it is the one to the front/furthest away from the firewall. I think it is a tan/red colour plugged into a grey socket.

That will get your idle down, then adjust the screw if as needed.

good luck
