hi, my name is sophie I have a 1993 300zx. I bought it about a year ago, not running. It hasn’t run in from five years to over a decade, unsure exactly when it last ran not the most knowledgeable in cars specially, the electrical side of things the car has a strong crank, but will not start. I have replaced the coil packs, spark plugs, PTU, oil filter, drained the old fuel and added new fuel and did an oil change. i was told by a friend that the ptu was the problem. so i replaced it and no change. i was told by someone else that my cas is getting no voltage so i was told to buy a new one. i did and have not installed it because im not sure what the right voltage is. very confused on the whole thing. am i supposed to measure in ohms or mv or volts and what should the right reading be if this was the issue? also could someone tell me what the trouble shoot lining should be? spark is definitely the issue so if it’s not the coil packs, the spark plugs, the ptu, or the cas (if nothing changes), then what is the next step? the ecu? looking for anybody to help!

First of all you need to stop listening to the advise those people are telling you. How can they know the ptu and cas are bad without testing them. (If the CAS is not getting voltage, is not the cas issue, it’s likely a wiring issue, so why change the cas.)This is not a good first car to start learning on, lots of complex electrical components. You really need to look at all the connectors for corrosion.
Go back to the basics.
1) Spark, ground one of the spark plug threads with the coil attached and have someone crank the car and look for spark. If this is good then the ptu is likely good.
2) Fuel, use a fuel pressure gauge after the filter and crank should show 40-43 ish psi. Then remove the cas, (be sure to mark the position so it can be reinstalled in the same position) with plug attached, ignition on, turn the shaft by hand. You should hear light clicking of the injectors firing/opening.
3) Timing/compression, do a compression test of each cylinder.

If any of the above fails, report back.
