Ok, Im trying to put my CAS back in, I know the procedure...line up the half moon pin, place in correct orientation with the holes...my only problem is..its so friggin tight..I literally cant get the CAS more than halfway into the hole on the cover, much less turn it if needing to adjust timing..is it supposed to be this tight? should I tap it in with a hammer/ mallet? help me out on this one...thanks

mine is NOT that tight. i mean, it goes "thunk" when it pops into place, but i dont have to resort to a mallet to get it there. make sure everything is kosher because thats how the key on the exhaust cam gets broken.

Is the front cover bolted down flush with the head and block? There are brass ferrules that align the backing plate that sits behind the camwheels.

If the backing plate is not on properly, then the front cover is also not on properly, this will misalign the CAS, potentially causing it to snap the cam, or CAS shaft.

Have you had the front cover and it's backing plate off recently?

everything is aligned properly..yes I have backing pins in place..like I said its just the hole....I'm just gonna pull the cover and see if the CAS will get in there. I'm afraid of snapping the exhaust cam pin thats why I haven't forced it too much..but I do line it up before to make sure I'm not putting force on it. Thanks guys, any other input would be appreciated.

update..well ok..i just took the cover off and tried the cas in the hole..no fit...tight as hell..i did paint the cover in retrospect...so maybe a need to strip the inside a bit of paint...but damn..that would be a tight fit.

Good Work :-)

The photos I've seen of snapped cams etc scare me.

I didnt know how easy to stuff things up, until I realized how easy people could do it, if they don't take care with the brass ferrules,

Good to hear.
