Can't wait to see the video. Oh yeah. It can get expensive very quickly, but relatively speaking, go-karting is not outrageous when you compare it to racing cars. Flohtingpoint (Jim) would be a good source to chat with as he was one of those serious guys into go-kart autocrossing for a few years and had limited storage space.
For the 2011 season I kept my shifter kart in the back of a dodge durango. Not the most efficient way, but it worked. 2012 I bought a 6x12 trailer and stored it in there along with my Rotax kart.
Some karts are cheap, some are not. The motor alone for my shifter kart cost about 4k (cost of CR125 and build), but it made about 300 HP per litre of displacement (38HP at .125 cc), which puts it on par with current F1 motors in terms of efficiency. This doesnt mean it will cost most people this, it was just what I was willing to put forth because I did two years of heavy national level competition all across the USA (24-25 national events in that span including two trips to the SCCA Solo National Championship and SCCA Pro Finale). I still have my Rotax but sold the shifter kart this winter as the seasons were just too enervating on my body.
The raw brutality of a shifter kart, when given the proper course is always worth the hassle and pain.
