My water pump completely exploded the other day because the fan clutch was frozen for a few months and i was too lazy to change it (didnt know it would destroy the car). Anyways, my water pump exploded sending fragements of fan + shroud and also piping t coolant everywhere in my engine bay. So i ordered a used fan+clutch and water pump off ebay. Parts work absolutely perfect BUT! i think something was destroyed when the water pump exploded. Now my car will not rev past 2500 and has a hard time starting.

Please someone guide me!!!

is your oil psi good u may have gotten fragments in the oil pan blocking the sump filter. this would make it harder to start and possibly not let it rev high due to poor oil flow. jus my $.o2

unplug the 2 wire coolant temp sensor and make sure there is no corrosion in it also check your airflow connector and intake tube to make sure it didnt get cut by one of the fragments.

does the car bounce off 2500 rpm or does it bog?

Sounds like the ECU may not be getting a signal from the MAF. Check the MAF, the connections and the wires. On the S13, the wires run accross the top of the fan shroud and could have been damaged by a fragment.

Yup, sounds like the car is running in safe mode for some reason, check the ECU for codes?

it bounces off.

i checked the wires running to the MAF sensor and they appear to be fine. one wire on that was on the wire going to the fan shroud was damaged and i was able to repair it, but i couldnt see any other visible signs of damage.

Quote »Yup, sounds like the car is running in safe mode for some reason, check the ECU for codes?[/quote]yeah it definately feels like the computer is keeping it from running properly and i think its in a safe mode...thats what i suggested to my father.

i took it to a mechanic because i dont have to time or money to figure out the problem right now.

also, anyone have the link for a list of codes for the ECU?

ill search around for them first though

thanks for all your help...any suggestions will still be taken into consideration

that sounds like its hitting a rev limiter. Is it back firing at all when its bouncing? have you pulled the dist cap off yet to see if it has coolant inside of it?

i cehcked the distributer cap to see if any coolant was in it. it already had a dist cap cover on it and when i popped the cap off, it apperead to be fine.

the engine IS backfiring and it feeels like a rev limiter when it bounces off the 2500 rpms thing

I replaced the MAF sensor and the temp sensor + pigtail harness for the temp sensor. cleaned all connections, double-checked install job and the damn engine still wont rev past 2500. Since i changed the temp sensor, the car hasnt had a problem idling. Not to mention we also installed a new TPS. THe thing still runs like crap STUMPED PLESE HELP

i was working with the mechanic and he isnt exactly sure whats wrong with it either. He has some ideas, but hes never seen a case like this before (he usually never gets stumped).

The machanic also hooked it up to the computer and he cant get a clear reading from th ECU because of misc erraneous readings :/ :/ (bad comp?). If anyone has a clue or has heard of somehting like this before, please lend me a hand! im stumpedddd!

lossen and resecure all the grounds on the engine and see if that helps get accurate readings from the comp.

I was just wondering if kaptain chump (or anyone else) came up with a solution to the RPM problems. I have been experiencing the same problems he has (RPM bouncing at 2500, but will not pass), as well as a problem with my electrical systems. Nothing electrical will come on (except headlights and the backlight for in-dash clock) until after the car is started and I give it some gas. My problems didnt start until after I replaced my thermostat. I have done the obvious (fuses, etc.), but my technical knowledge is extremely limited. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i even tried a known working maf mass airflow sensor and it STILL doesnt work. my mechanic traced all wires back to the computer from the maf, so i dont belive thats the problem. my mechanic is suggesting it could possibly be the ecu or some other electronic problem. anyone know of any other sensors i could replace? i cant think of any that couldve been damaged. plz :) oh and update i got a new car! honda civic 70k miles nice rims and junk for 5 grand. now im trying to fix the 240 and make a grand. thx for any help

oh well so much for buying it from ya.lol

If you loosened and resecured all the grounds and check all the power inputs to the ecm and they all came out ok... you are probably looking at a fried ecm.

ya i recently redid all the grounds for my amplifier setup. umm yeah the mechanic tested all the points on the ecu and he said theyre all reading or w/e. he said the only thing he can think of is a fried ecu. anyonne have an extra 1989 240sx ecu? ...anyone?

manual. i appreciate the offer nismoguy but i managed to find a computer from a j-yard. that still didnt do anything. m mechanic has a feeling that the problem isnt in the computer but still in the MAF sensor. all the MAF's we've tried have been used ones. we're going to ry and read codes from the new(er) computer and see what we get. if this computer is messed up, ill hit you up on that offer nismoguy...thanks :)
