They also had horrible electrical systems and over-heated like crazy. If my ex hadn't wrecked this car I probably would have ended up trading it in. There's a reason this car faded out quickly.Jesda wrote:Those 5-speed Contours are indeed unexpectedly good fun to drive.
SHOULD. FIX. EXHAUST.Chaotic_Warlord wrote:1995 Nissan 240 SX Base model - current car, picked up from salvage yard for $1400 with 230K on the clock, 3 engines, a 5 speed swap and lots of mods later the old girl is still trucking along with 260+K on the odometer. Debating as to whether I want to keep her or sell.trade her in towards the purchase of a diesel super duty truck.
Wow, so much hate for my exhaust... There is nothing wrong with it, it's just loud, and I've had it like that for over 3 years and have never been pulled over or a ticket, it even passes inspection every year. I have a small exhaust leak at one of the connections that I can't seem to find but beyond that there is nothing wrong with it, I can baby it and make her whisper quiet when I want/need to or I can go full bore and make everyone deaf, it's a win win for me. The suspension and bushings are the only things that I'm concerned with fixing, but being broke I can't even replace them with used stock ones.nissangirl74 wrote:SHOULD. FIX. I'm just talking about the fumes, not the sound.Chaotic_Warlord wrote:Wow, so much hate for my exhaust... says you, that f*** is TOO loud. and don't tell me that it can be p****-footed around, i refuse to believe that. shifting at 800rpms won't drown that noise.nissangirl74 wrote:I'm just talking about the fumes, not the sound.
The fumes are because it runs rich, which are because I have practically no emissions devices on my car, the only thing I have left on it is the front O2 sensor, so the ecu is freaking out because it doesn't have anything to tell it what A/F Ratio's it should be running. I still get fairly good gas mileage though, usually get around 300-350 miles to the tank unless I'm stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. I did finally get a replacement silencer for it, now it sounds like a neutered civic.nissangirl74 wrote:I'm just talking about the fumes, not the sound.Chaotic_Warlord wrote: Wow, so much hate for my exhaust... I generally shift at 3k for day to day driving, but when I need to be quiet I shift @ 2500, anything below that leads to it bogging down and damn near stalling because I have an aluminum flywheel and drive shaft. I have driven it onto the PPD Academy grounds for Orientation with a ton of cops on the premises and they never even looked at me. It's not so much about shift points as the amount of gas you give it and knowing when to just put it in neutral and idle coast. 1st gear is the only gear where it gets a little ornery no matter how I drive it b/c of the flywheel and drive shaft.numbnuts240 wrote:says you, that f**ker is TOO loud. and don't tell me that it can be p****-footed around, i refuse to believe that. shifting at 800rpms won't drown that noise.
