When I start my car in the morning when the engine is cold, it would stall out and the rpm drops low and then goes up to normal until its warm.

lol, I mean this in no way to be taken like I'm a smart aleck, but how long has it been since you've had a tune up? I mean a good thorough tune up. Just a suggestion.:)

yeah a good tune up is good every now and then, There's a cool dude that does it here, Steve's Computerized Tune-up, he's awesome... anyway if there is anything wrong with your car they can tell you..... if it's not internal. It's a good place to start anyway. tune-ups around here run about $60.... Good Luck

Hey there. Where are you located and how cold is cold?

I had some troubles starting & stalling and discovered it to be my battery. Not enough CCA specifically. Once it did get started and stumbled to start, it would run perfect. I think the minimum CCA's you need is 440 (Nissan specs for an 89), I had 460, NOT enough as my car is fully loaded and it's freezing!

Best of luck.

Skazzi i think you solved my problem. Well I haven't got a new battery yet. But in the morning when the key is in and about to start every start curcit and powers out. Wait a second try again and it goes out again a few tries power back on. It was in the 20s here and now maybe 30 or low 40s. Is this the battery? If so what kind of battery should I purchase?

HiI can only pass along my experience, I'm not sure if it's your battery or if it's not though it does sound like it if my opinion counts for anything. =o) If you are able you can bring it in for testing too.

On the top of my old battery there was a sticker indicating the number of Cold Cranking Amps that it had, for me 460. Also a little eye for reading the status of it. Green for good and dark for needed to be charged to be tested. For the first while it would crank but take a while to turn over. The colder it got, the longer it took. Eventually, this past week (which did dip down to about -10C, probably around 20F) it would only click and die and dim the lights as I tried to turn on the power, also set my alarm to a faint whine. It would not consider starting. Also found that the longer the car sat such as when i left for work in the afternoons it would be tough to start too.

I posted a thread for help about batteries and some great folk helped me out with a few symptoms. http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....46527

Nissan had three options listed for my 240sx ranging from. 440 - 660 CCA I bought a Interstate Battery with 800 CCA for $100, my car has started up great since and a bum battery was for sure my problem.

Have read on a couple of the forums that Optima & Delco are good batteries.

Hope this helps some, best of luck!

I've just got a continental Terminator battery, it's throwin 1,000 Cold Cranking Amps, it's brand new, and I've still got the problem. Some times, not all the time, only when it wants to.
