So I took the 1990 240sx SOHC fast back to the shop to have some trained people look at the under belly of the car.

Other than new brakes and tires that are needed, they mentioned that I need/look into getting a new "Carrier" for the drive shaft due to being badly worn. He said that was one of the reasons the car rides rough.

Can anyone tell me where the carrier is?

If you look under your car you will see a large thing that the drive shaft goes through on its way to the rear end. Thats the carrier bearing.

Oh and is this something that needs a machine to be installed?

Thanks! Much appreciated!

I haven't replaced mine and really couldn't tell you what is involved. I have removed the entire drive shaft a couple of times for trans and/or engine R and R.

the carrier is located under you car, the driveshaft is held in it, there are two either 14 or 17mm bolts holding it in, to remove the driveshaftb undo the 4 14mm bolts holding the driveshaft to the rear end and undo the carrier bolts, then pull hte driveshaft out of the rear of the transmission

Have not installed one yet, but you might need a press to get it off the driveshaft and the new one on. You could pay quite a bit more and put in a one peice driveshaft.
