So I am going to be experimenting with a "carputer".

I have an OBD Scanner that my grandpa found at a garage sale so I am gonna take the cord and use it with a spare laptop I have sitting around..

Once hooked together it should show me MPH, RPMs and all that good stuff.. also will play DVDs, GPS, CDs.. all the goods and even browse the internet.. heres what it looks like...

I will start on my project when I get a cheap 10 inch Touchscreen somewhere.

Doesn't that mean Windows will have to boot up everytime you start the car and shut down before you turn off the car?

Yup, you can rig it to start with your car...most in car in-dash navigation runs on a Windows/Linux type OS that boots up and shut downs when you turn the ignition to On or OFF.

Laptop could stay on if the battery on it lasts a while and then gets recharged the minute you give the adapter power.

Right now I am only going to be testing with my laptop which will always be on because I will take it with me and not leave it into the car ($1500 MacBook would totally get stolen) but afterwards they actually have "carputers" that are designed to be in cars and are ultra slim and fast so that booting and all that is fast.
