Ok, I am putting my carputer back into my car in the near future. And since the last time I had done it people did not like it and called it cheesy.. So now I am asking everyone for ideas... Just throw ideas out there and Im sure i can make it happen... Just let me know people!!

This is what it used to look like...

I think that screen is way, way too big. You need something like half that size.

I agree, the screen is way too big, if you were to remove the factory head unit and storage area, put the screen in there flush with the dash, that would be cool, cause the puter can do anything your head unit can and then some. That would be sweet and easily done. You could even get rid of the glove box and hide the PC in there, plenty of space, just keep the glove box door for easy access to the PC.

well see if i only put the screen in the head unit that only leaves me with a screen no bigger than 7 inches... and takes away my sun glasses holder...lol.... and i just put the computer under the passenger seat and it tucks away very nicely under there... so come people try to get more creative here... lol

And the carputer can do everything a normal computer can do.. It runs windows media on it, its an amd 3000+ with 700 and something ram. even has a wifi antenta that goes up to half a mile.. lol

Why would you want to put a computer in your car? Seriously, I dont understand. This is right up there with 4000 watt stereos and 22" wheels. I'm just not getting it.

Well, It makes the trip faster for the passenger: DVD, videogames, homework, ...It allows a customization of the sound system: playlists, unlimited song bank, ...It helps plan a trip: maps, GPS, schedule, finances, ...It develops abilities: electronics, electricity, computers, ...

Anyway, these are just a few reasons why I think a carputer is actually a good idea. I wish I could !

Dude that screen Rocks! don't listen to the nay sayers. Rock that carputer out! just make sure you have tinted windows and keep that car in a well guarded place or else expect a lot of busted windows from thieves trying to get at that sweet sweet sweet piece of technology. As a matter of fact I better not see you around town or else that carputer is MINE!!

I just realized another potential problem, it looks like it may be an airbag hazard where it is in the pic, wouldn't that suck, an LCD monitor coming at you at 100 mph. How about the monitor on a track that slides out of the glovebox? That way, no theft problems, and keeps the car clean. That should be the goal, to keep it looking clean and not ridiculous.

the computer idea is good my friend has a maxima with a pc in the glove box and the monitor is the one that flips up and slides back in the double din head unit... he controls the airflow and output of the car through his pc... i wish he was still here so i can take some pictures... but the big screen that is exposed to sunlight errr i wouldnt recommend it...

Yes, I like the screen cause its 14 inch's and a lot easier to view instead of a 7inch and no to the air bag part. I have checked it and it sits just below where the air bag deploys. So if the air bag was to hit it, it would just simply hit the top of it and probably bend it off the bracket and fall down, not come to the face. I do like that sliding idea though.. i will definitely have to look into that one.. And my car has a damn good alarm system. But keep the ideas coming.. I love it!!

No matter how good your alarm is, it won't stop some punk from smashing your window out with a rock or other object, in an attempt to get your LCD.

Even if they don't get it (due to the alarm now going off), you've still got a broken window to deal with, and all that it entails.

I'd try and come up with a way to either easily put in/take out the LCD, or some sort of hideaway sliding mechanism might also help.
