Guys, don't want to sound stupid, but cant you just hook up an IPhone to the RCA inputs and get everything like email, music, Maps, Photos, Videos, and every other app that comes for the phone??? You would have to control it via the Phone and not the car controls, but hey its cheap. I guess you would need an IPhone and ATT plan...

however if you r in my situation, where i do have RCA in, do i just hook the phone straight to the car with that cable?

I have the RCA jack on the back and if I remember someone here in the forum said that you can stream video to the nav screen only if you use the apple AV composite video cable and not some imitation one.

Now is a great time to look into carputer mods. There are TONS of efficient and ultracompact options out there. Look into nettops, which are super-compact prebuilts that run efficient and cool but aren't too powerful. Or look into Intel's new Clarkdale and Arrandale chips which are pretty efficient but can still be quite powerful.

Yes. With the early 5th gen ipods (not touch) there was support for a 3.5mm phone to RCA cable (any old cable). Apple quickly locked it down and now requires an adapter that uses the actual ipod connector, not the headphone jack and is much pricier.

I went on the Apple site and it appears that the Iphone does support video out. Here is the link:

You dont need an extra phone line to use it.. you already have tmobile so just use yours.. i mean that up to you!.. what phone are you using now?

I have the basic internet package so its like prolly $10.. remember you can connect your phone to wifi and it will be faster

well im torn between these two phones.

the Nokia is the obvious choice and i like what it can do. but i don't to not have to wait untill i get next to a hot spot to get internet service. i wanna have it all the time so i can get internet access anywhere i go.

therefore im contemplating just getting a second line with a cheap phone to go with it. keep my main phone (which is the G1) as my 1st line, and then take the SIM card out of the second phone and put it in the Nokia and i should be good to go.

to Ninos: if you wanted to activate your Nokia, you can just go to Tmobile or At&t for service right? basically any service provider that uses a SIM card for their phones correct?

Yes, the Nokia N-Series can be used with any provider that uses simcard. (tmobile, at&t, Rogers, etc..) Another thing you need to know that you cant buy nokia n95 series with a contract! they are unlocked phones that are sold seperately and they are bit of $$ lol..

There is some on Ebay for cheap..

I wish I had been here for that. The original build was pretty impressive.

Did you have any trouble selling it with a severely modified electrical system.
I am a huge fan of carputers but I only watch with my hands in my pockets. I have no stomach for that type of risk, but I envy those who do.

That is the mod of the future for older cars.
