So i did a search and found info on where to get replacement carpet for my 91 but i could not find info on removal. I know it's not that hard but i was hoping someone might have done it and had some quick tips about anything to watch out for ie; hidden clips or bolts etc. I have to take the carpet out because it's just too ratty. I've thought about just leaving it out and putting some diamond floor plates in but i think i would lose sound deadening for road noise. Any opinions on what you guys would do?

there's gonna be a whole lot of pulling stuff out. The seats, console, the interior pieces in the back, and the part near the doors where the door covers that long plastic piece that hides the point where the carpet meets the doors. Under the dash you can just pull on it. There's a pad that sits under the carpet as well. At the back where it sits under the passenger seats, there are two or three little black push in retainers. Those can just come out with a screw driver under it. Other than that, there shouldn't be too many surprises, just a bit of time to get the interior out. Personally, I would just replace the carpet. I don't really like the grey carpeting either, but it's still in mine. I've already tried removing my backseats and a bunch of other interior pieces in the back to lighten up the car a bit, but I've a fastback and even though I didn't remove the sound deadener, the road noise and the sound from my exhaust was too much and I put the interior pieces back in.

thanks 180fan for the info. I still haven't decided if i'm going to replace the carpet yet. I just know i'm tired of the one in there. Maybe i'll pull it and leave it for now. Thanks again.

pulled the carpet today. 1.85 richer and one carpet poorer! so not a hard job but one that i had to do. i think it's better but i have also decided to buy a replacment one soon,it's just to loud. when i tookk the carpet out from the drivers side i removed the dead pedal and throttle stop(?) is that what that plastic piece is?why is it there?if it's for stopping the throttle from topping out i can understand but is that not what the ecu does for 4th and 5th gear?or is that piece just a safty precaution? i know it's a dumb question but it's just for my fyi.thanks

common sense tells me.... it's there so u won't stretch/break the throttle cable.

So u don't haveta slam the gas pedal all the way to the firewall...

I hear it is a huge pain in the arse to do teh carpet. You have to pull everything out like seats, trim peices, and parts of the dash/ the whole dash if you want to do it right. Otherwise you will get wrinkles, and big 'bubbles'. Take your time, or else it will look worse when you are done. Also you need to use a special glue that holds the carpet to the floor.

the carpet kit i am buying in the spring is a form fitted oem replacment carpet. requires no gluing but ya it is a pain. maybe i'll just have my welder friend design and fabricate aluminum floor pads for it seeing as how i'm not too worried about weight. i weighed the carpet today:34 pounds!

Hello all,

I don't want to be "that riced-out guy" but I stripped the interior of my 240 a while ago. Yeah it's loud, but the car is my "track whore" so I don't care that it's noisy and has dents. Anyway, the carpet has some heft to it, as well as the spare tire and the rest of the interior pieces. I recently removed the A/C condensor, compressor and all the plumbing......... I stopped weighing stuff when I reached 200 lbs.......... that's a lot of weight and it shows in the increased performance. I know that my 240 isn't crazy light like an 1800 lbs Lotus Elise, but hey...............track whore.
