Wow, I've finally reached a point in life where I can finally type something coherent w/out having to re-read it 10 times and make corrections. I didn't do a very good job of taking care of myself this weekend so I've been paying the price since I got back. Anyway...
This was my first forum meet ever (of any forum I've been on) where I didn't know just about everyone in person already, so I had no idea what to expect. Luckily most of my time was spent in the autox paddock or on the track where I feel at home, so when I wasn't driving, I was walking around, introducing myself (I spent a good bit of time sticking my hand out and saying "Hi, I'm Jim) and immediately assisting folks with advice on how to tackle the track or how to drive (I also spent a good bit of time saying, "Your foot is either on the throttle or on the brake, no coasting").
Best parts of the weekend:
-Hanging out with Joel (Bubba) and Sean (MagikDragon) that first night. Had a few beers, and talked about track time the whole night.
-Dueling with James (Greenblurr93) was great. For the better part of Saturday, he was pushing me, I was pushing him.
-I loved giving the ride alongs. So many folks were very receptive of advice and willing to learn, it was very refreshing. Also, all of my best times were done with a passenger. The first part of Saturday morning and my installation lap on Sunday were done alone, but other than that, I cant think of a time when I wasn't having a ride along with me. It was pretty challenging trying to continuously put down lap after lap of driving where I'm really pushing while cracking jokes or giving commentary about how I'm attacking the course at that given time.
-Greg is hilarious with the megaphone. I can remember standing next to the grill or being in the staging line and hearing him rip off stuff and dying.
-Sitting at the starting line, talking about giving a ride along and saying something like "If I get a bad time, I wont blame you," and then immediately hearing, "YES HE WILL!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!" as Christine (Skydragoness) thew me under the bus.
-DevilMB3017 is easily one of my favorite folks I met there that I wasn't familiar with from the board. Just about every time the track opened for auto-x, he was out there getting valuable seat time. He was one of the first folks to come up to me and ask for a ride along and was probably the most interested in learning. I'm hoping he keeps up autocrossing, as someone with this type of zeal can only become faster. S13's are a rarity on the autocross course and it'd be nice to see more out there, especially in the Northeastern Division.
-Becky is ridiculously interesting. We probably sat in the staging line for half an hour or so awaiting her ride along and there wasn't a moment where we weren't gabbing about something. A lot of the times I find myself having to lead a conversation with folks I just met, but this was the complete opposite. The time waiting for the run flew by very quickly.
-Dinner Saturday night. I didn't drink much water that day or eat anything and I wound up getting pretty lit very quickly (because we weren't going to work on the waitresses schedule). I just remember sitting there, feeling rather drunk when all of a sudden I hear SentraStace say something along the lines of "I wish I knew what everyone here did for a living". Sounded like a good idea to me at the time, so I started ripping right into it. Here is what I recall:
