I have some. I'll post up pics and video tomorrow.

I asked Joel about this. He said it was to due to more equal weight distribution over the tires. Thanks for the ride-a-long and all the tips. I think it is so awesome that other than the Z06 (which had 500 hp) you and I had the best lap time of the weekend (0.56), and with the Corolla only having 95 hp! :dblthumb: That's just badass driving

Between that and the fact that most everyone else was around 8 seconds slower blows my mind. 8 seconds?! Where do you find 8 seconds on that little track. Jim was pulling time out of his a**. It was incredible.

Joel took me out for a ride in his Z. The secret is what Jim told all of us all weekend. NO COASTING. Everything should be deliberate. Your foot is either on the gas or on the brake. Just FYI, Joel's brakes will last forever. We went three laps and I'm pretty sure he never touched them.

You're 18... you can do what you want. Your parents have no legal power over you.

Indeed. Turning 18 doesn't magically change the fact that your parents still expect certain things of you. If you've got a good paying job, your own place to stay, and everything you need, sure, feel free to toss them the bird and get on with life. I never understood that mentality, though.

The no coasting explantation is simple. To lower your time.

Why talk about racing? Simple. Besides making you quicker the next time, Autocrossing provides wonderful lessons in car control. Getting comfortable with weight transfer, understeering, oversteering is completely transferrable to real life driving situations. Makes you a safer driver when conditions are bad. :bigthumb:

Ah thanks. I'm just glad you could make out what I was saying on Sunday (I'm sure my sentences needed a few extra words thrown in by the listener to make them coherent). Like I said, I didn't take very good care of myself and on Sunday my body was so jacked up that my lexicon was diminished and I was literally forgetting English words for things. It's too bad that I didn't bring someone fluent in madrelingua so I could have a translator.

I highly suggest coming out to Fed Ex at the end of this month for the Northeastern Divisional Championship. There should be somewhere along the lines of 10 national champions there and the competition will be very heavy. The other EP guy in my class, Mike Steere, has been competing at a national level for at least five years, has sponsors, will probably have new tires each day, etc and will probably be more than I can handle, but it'll still be fun. Hit me up with a PM and I can give you the full details if you're interested.

Thanks =) Yea, I was pushing really hard. The whole time we were talking, I was also running the course over and over in my head, trying to pinpoint places where I can eek out more time on the throttle or rotate the car better.

My favorite bit of driving advice is lifted directly from five time Formula 1 world champion Juan Fangio, "More throttle, less brake." I constantly tell myself this while driving or while in the staging line.

How are you going to argue with the guy who ran the fastest times in the least powerful car?

And just because your not coasting doesn't mean you have to be on full gas or full brake... just always doing one or the other. His advice shaved a solid 3-4 seconds off my lap times after one ride along and a few sentences. You're going to have to put up a better argument.

Being "on the gas" and full throttle are not the same thing.

Much thanks to DevilMB and RMW, I definitely would not have as much fun without you guys! Stan is all sorts of awesome for letting me track his 240 so much Sunday morning. I just wish I knew what kind of lap times I was doing. Really gotta thank everyone, cause everyone was just too cool. Always great to see Greg again, I really respect him and what he's accomplished. Bex's accent is awesome and always surprises me a little. Jim's Toyota was just plain fun and the ride along was great.

Thanks NICO!! The weekend was a blast :)

Right.

I dont think I was full brake on the course at all aside for the stop. I was close to full coming into the first bus stop (a lot of folks were cutting that chicane, I'm glad Joel put that cone up on Sunday to stop folks from rolling on the grass =P).

Full throttle was done at four places for the setup I had. The start (of course), right after T1 coming through the slalom I was WOT, right after the 2nd bus stop, and then right after the slalom at the end. Since folks were going around the course twice, there was a total of 6 instances I could be WOT.

I was in full throttle A LOT. I got softer springs since last year (from 8kg/mm front/6rear to 6f/5r) and was able to keep traction much better with the uneven surfaces. Less one wheel peel due to open diff.

I felt quite happy running 59 seconds with a stock sr20de and all season tires =)

I can imagine. But that sort of thing just makes it all the more interesting versus regular parking lot autocross. I dont think we talked but I was definitely watching your autocross skills, you were one of the contenders out there.

My morning sessions are usually really dry. That might be because she's dehydrated from the drinking the night before.

rx8 = James.. haha..

yeah i was having issues keeping the tires up to temp... i really would have been better off with my Star specs, but they are so worn i doubt i would have made it home if i ran those... Also try a 'wet' session on r-comps... reminded me of when i go ice racing...

I kinda wish we measured 10ths... would make Jims 56 and my 57 a lot closer.. if i recall there was only about .3 seconds between us

Im already planning for next year.. this is one of my favorite events, the people make it..

Now to Fix my car and get ready for a local autox on the 29th!

It might have been even less than that. I'll plan to do 10ths (at least for times under a minute next year).

Well, in all fairness, it's not that easy to carry on conversations at the starting line with engines running with drivers wearing full face helmets. You were definitely among the elite. It was fun watching you run. :dblthumb:
