We are looking at a family road trip and I have been looking into some of the different options for added cargo cap. for the Q (Y33). Thule and Yakima both claim to offer options for the Q that are extensions of their roof racks for bike and canoes and such. Do any of you out there have any experience with these on the Q or any other car that lacks a factory rack? The paint on the Q is so beautiful I am really hesitant to try this. Any thoughts?

The systems aren't cheap (We could rent a van for a week for less), but I would own it and be able to use it in the future. Any thoughts are welcome, except for the "WHY WOULD YOU EVER DO THAT TO A blah blah blah". I am fighting with that already and those aren't helpful.

How about a hitch on the back and a cargo box that uses the receiver.Like this onehttp://www.harborfreight.com/c...92655orhttp:/ ... /c...34313

Trailer hitches mounted to the silicon filled bushing isolated subframe is a real bad idea.

Yeah, I briefly considered a hitch, but decided that the subframe was probably not setup for it. Just a guess, but sounds like I was right.

Would it be an issue for a cargo box though? The forces there would be much different than pulling a trailer.

Could always tow a small "luggage trailer" - which would avoid putting any significant tongue weight on the Q's suspension.

Curt Mfg. makes a 3500 lb. hitch for the Y33...

and Champion makes luggage trailers.

Or, you could just go with a classic Teardrop trailer - which would double as a nice weekend camping rig.
