Hi Rippin... Well... my first reaction would be to tell you to find some other yard barrels if the ones you have won't fit. Not buying a Rogue just because your existing yard barrels won't fit would be like not buying the perfect house just because your coffee pot wouldn't fit on the counter under the cabinets. In other words you could always buy different size yard barrels that would fit. Then again... if you have dozens of these green Home Depot yard barrels and you are simply looking for an inexpensive vehicle for a landscaping or delivery business then the Rogue might not be the answer.Rippin508 wrote:I am interested in getting a 2010 Rogue SL AWD. My question is in regards to the cargo area. I use those Home Depot green yard barrels. I think they are 50gal barrels. Would one or two of these fit in the cargo area with the back seat folded down?
Thanks for feedback, Elton Norway.Elton Noway wrote:

Short answer to your question, will two of them fit? Yes and No.Yes... if they are laying down]No... If you want them standing up.
Actually its hard to answer the question without knowing the specific HD barrels you purchased. They carry an assortment. I have one of the Home Depot barrels. Although it looks to be 50 gal I'm pretty sure its actually 60 gal. My barrel "would not" fit in my Rogue unless I laid it down.
Try this.... the Rogues cargo area from the floor to the top opening of the hatch opening is a hair over 28 inches. If your barrels are taller than that then they won't fit standing up. Two barrels laying down side by side... no problem. My barrel slides right in. The width of the opening is around 33 inches at the bottom (narrowest point) to around 44 inches at its widest.
Hope this helps. The Rogue is a sweet crossover vehicle. I love mine!

Yeah I plan on getting a hitch and trailer with which ever vehicle I get. I was just trying to avoid having to always tow the trailer every time I need to dump the brush.mpattdu wrote:Get the Rogue and then if the barrels don't fit you'll have a good excuse to get a hitch and small trailer
Thanks for your input.metabo wrote:My personal opinion on the matter is that if rear cargo space is an important issue, then you may want to consider some of the other options in the same category such as the RAV4 or Subaru Forrester. If you will occasionally tow, the RAV4 V6 seems to have had rave reviews.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Rogue. Where the Rgoue shines, IMO, is the excellent car-like drive, great mileage, and nice roomy interior. Also, like many here, i absolutely love the design.
However, the rear cargo is definitely not a strong point. The cargo space is smaller than much of the competitors, plus the rear hatch is small, meaning loading and unloading those barrels could be more troublesome. Another thing to consider is that the Rogue, by design, has a very smooth and curvy front facade that is completely painted, in which paint chips would be highly conspicuous. If you are going to be doing driving in rough roads, you may want to consider the SUVs with black unpainted bumper regions - Although most of the newer SUV designs seem to shun that. Wonder why that is. I was actually wondering, if my Rogue ends up needing front bumper replacement, how it would look with an unpainted front bumper/ fascia. It may actually look pretty cool if it was black.

As far as the Forester, I would wait next year to get their new CVT transmission or new 6 manual as they are starting offering on the new Legacy: Their current 4 automatic or 5 manual transmissions are lame.Rippin508 wrote:I like the Rogue and what it has to offer. I do not want a full size SUV or a truck. I want something that has cargo room and gets decent gas mileage. So right now my list consists of only two SUVs:

I couldn't have said it better. Where the Rogue shines is in its handling. I've had plenty of cars, trucks, SUV's and vans over the years and what continues to amaze me is when I get in the Rogue I feel like I'm getting into an SUV... but it drives like a family sedan. From a "handling perspective" my brother in-law took it for a test drive and made the comment he couldn't tell a difference between driving my Rogue and his Ford Taurus. I felt the same way when I drove it. It doesn't drive or feel like a Truck or an SUV... it handles like a car! My wife says the Rogue is her favorite car of all the cars she has every owned. And thats saying something.metabo wrote:My personal opinion on the matter is that if rear cargo space is an important issue, then you may want to consider some of the other options in the same category such as the RAV4 or Subaru Forrester.
